got any recommendations please - for 2 Walthamstow old girls and their other halves who want to go back for a night out. Gritty authenticity not required, just somewhere nice and reasonably priced. Village looks nice so preferred but not a necessity

If you like Spanish the Oxford Road Tapas is excellent.

No, Mondragone is gone. Personally I never liked it.

As Keef has said, the Village, for all its pretentiousness, has an absence of decent restaurants.

At the St James St end of the High Street (so they'll need to navigate the pickpockets) is a decent tapas place - Don Francisco Y La Luna.

On Hoe Street, near Central but heading towards the Bakers Arms side, is a decent Uyghur place - Etles. Bonus points as you don't have far to leg it afterwards to get to the tube and make your escape.

If they fancy some fried chicken that's been slaughtered in accordance with superstitious nonsense, then they're spoilt for choice.

Wasn't Eltes the first Uyghur restaurant in the country or did I miss remember that? It's pretty nice tho when I went.

many thanks for these - Uyghur would be a first for most of us I think (which is good, I hope), the tube carriage sounds good but looks like fine dining/set 6 course menu only, and the tapas and Turkish sound like decent shouts
