restaurant in Walthamstow - probably in the Village
got any recommendations please - for 2 Walthamstow old girls and their other halves who want to go back for a night out. Gritty authenticity not required, just somewhere nice and reasonably priced. Village looks nice so preferred but not a necessity

The village looks like it should have a nice restaurant, but the reality is they’re not much cop there.

No, Mondragone is gone. Personally I never liked it.
As Keef has said, the Village, for all its pretentiousness, has an absence of decent restaurants.
At the St James St end of the High Street (so they'll need to navigate the pickpockets) is a decent tapas place - Don Francisco Y La Luna.
On Hoe Street, near Central but heading towards the Bakers Arms side, is a decent Uyghur place - Etles. Bonus points as you don't have far to leg it afterwards to get to the tube and make your escape.
If they fancy some fried chicken that's been slaughtered in accordance with superstitious nonsense, then they're spoilt for choice.

There's also a new Latino restaurant that's opened inside an old 1967-stock Victoria Line tube carriage. I've not eaten there yet myself so have no idea how good it is, but it looks decent: https://supperclub.tube/

Leyton Technical reopens as the Engineer this Thursday. Same mob from the Tredegar in Bow doing the food which is excellent. Get yourself on a bus down to Leyton if you’re inclined.

Wasn't Eltes the first Uyghur restaurant in the country or did I miss remember that? It's pretty nice tho when I went.Dunners wrote: ↑Mon Sep 02, 2024 7:26 pm No, Mondragone is gone. Personally I never liked it.

many thanks for these - Uyghur would be a first for most of us I think (which is good, I hope), the tube carriage sounds good but looks like fine dining/set 6 course menu only, and the tapas and Turkish sound like decent shouts

I cant think of many worse places to eat a dinner than an old tube carriage. Hope they've at least installed some ventilation.Dunners wrote: ↑Mon Sep 02, 2024 7:30 pm There's also a new Latino restaurant that's opened inside an old 1967-stock Victoria Line tube carriage. Might have to give the "Horn of Plenty" a try. Not been in there for 30 years!
