Why is only Nigel funding the club?
Read a few times that only Nigel is putting cash in? What has happened to Kent? The other directors?

Because Nigel cares about Orient, the rest are investors who want a return

Re: Why is only Nigel funding the club?
If true then this is a very serious problem and could well mean that the club will be starved of the money that it needs to be able to survive in Division One.Rich Tea Wellin wrote: ↑Sun Sep 01, 2024 8:45 pm Kent sold his to some alleged shyster who the Dutch fa found to not have access to the funds he says he has (I think).

The Dutch fa weren’t sure. Rumours he’s trying to sell his Belgian club atm.Lifelongfan wrote: ↑Sun Sep 01, 2024 9:10 pmNot strictly true tbh. Funny that Nigel uses the EFL fit and proper test to prove how Coley is ok for Orient

Nigel is a really good man but he can't fund everything with only a little help . Kent is another top man but I don't know what input he has now . Nigel is right to look for new investors because he needs help .

Re: Why is only Nigel funding the club?
I think any new "investor" will only likely be interested in developing a new ground which would leave them with an asset (Travis alluded to this last week),not investing in the playing side. I think the only way to get someone fully involved is a full sell out which given what he's done for the club would be a shame but at some stage will be a necessity.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 02, 2024 10:09 am Nigel is a really good man but he can't fund everything with only a little help . Re: Why is only Nigel funding the club?
I’ve been very critical of the club of late and tbh after that last performance I think it was deserved but we don’t really know what’s been going on behind closed doors and yes if it wasn’t for NT we would not have a club.I’m in reflective mood so if we are pointing the finger at anyone it has to be Barry the spiv Hearn. If he had ounce of decency about him he should sell all his stake in the club to someone who can take us forward and who really cares. Is that going to happen, probably not. Business people are not going to invest in a rented property, would you? I certainly wouldn’t. What I don’t like about the club at the moment is the underhanded way they are going about things.ie promising exciting signings, putting up ridiculous match day prices trying infiltrate the supporters club. They haven’t done that for the last five seasons. If they are in trouble in some way just be honest.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 02, 2024 10:09 am Nigel is a really good man but he can't fund everything with only a little help . Re: Why is only Nigel funding the club?
Tbf I wouldn’t classify as “ underhanded” as you do. I think in the case of “ exciting” transfers it’s more a case of hyping things up in an attempt to drum up interest in what is otherwise a very low key close season - and let’s face it, NT has a bit of previous in respect of that. Re H£earn, you can forget any chance he will do the decent thing.Monkey Boy wrote: ↑Mon Sep 02, 2024 10:31 amI’ve been very critical of the club of late and tbh after that last performance I think it was deserved but we don’t really know what’s been going on behind closed doors and yes if it wasn’t for NT we would not have a club.I’m in reflective mood so if we are pointing the finger at anyone it has to be Barry the spiv Hearn. Re: Why is only Nigel funding the club?
I agree . I don't know if this is true or not but I've heard Barry Hearn is now worth half a £Billion . I believed in Barry at the time but now looking back at it now he did turn the club over . My West Ham supporting mate at work told me years ago Hearn was only a spiv while discussing ( arguing ) about the tenancy of the Olympic Stadium . I have to say he was right .Monkey Boy wrote: ↑Mon Sep 02, 2024 10:31 amI’ve been very critical of the club of late and tbh after that last performance I think it was deserved but we don’t really know what’s been going on behind closed doors and yes if it wasn’t for NT we would not have a club.I’m in reflective mood so if we are pointing the finger at anyone it has to be Barry the spiv Hearn. Remember when Matchroom Stadium 'bought' Brisbane Road from Leyton Orient for £6m and Hearn promised that if they ever sold the ground, 50% of the profit on sale would be handed back to the club. Then he 'sold' Brisbane Road to Matchroom Pension Fund several years later for the price of £6m, generating no profit, meaning nothing had to be paid to the club?
Of course he won't do the decent thing.

Re: Why is only Nigel funding the club?
As for the promising signings spill the club came out with, they should just tell us the truth . That is , 'We're tying to sign good players at the moment but the competition this year is particularly strong so we can't promise anything . Please buy your season tickets early to give us a chance to compete and help the club financially "
We're Orient supporters and well used to the idea of the club not having much money . Yes, good new signings help but we buy season tickets mainly because we love the club and want to support it . Just be honest with us because we're not stupid .

Re: Why is only Nigel funding the club?
I was talking with somebody at our last home game and was discussing a potential move to a new ground . I suggested any new stadium should be a "Meccano stadium ". What I mean't by that was to build a stadium for our current needs but with the potential to add parts on to increase our capacity should we get to play at a higher level . I was told the two end stands behind each goal were built like that but thanks to Hearn selling off the land behind the stands we now can't add anything. extra to them . The more I think about it , the more I think we have to move to a new ground but obviously that's easier said than done .Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Mon Sep 02, 2024 11:08 amredintheface wrote: ↑Mon Sep 02, 2024 10:51 am Re H£earn, you can forget any chance he will do the decent thing.

Moving to another ground won’t make us play better. True but it would give us a better chance to compete with our rivals. In the long term I don't think we can stay where we areYanzi Gravy wrote: ↑Mon Sep 02, 2024 11:24 amMoving to another ground won’t make us play better. Did the club do anything good with the £6m?

Re: Why is only Nigel funding the club?
The market value as estimated by an independent valuer was £6m on both occassions, I believe! What are the chances?!? We were also assured by the likes of Porter and that Loft Lawyer bloke (who was on here) that it was all done for standard commercial reasons and was not in any way dodgy.
It was a long time ago but from memory, £4m of the £6m was used to pay back the debt the club owed to Matchroom. So only £2m was paid to Leyton Orient. And that £2m was stuck in as working capital and used to fund future losses.

Re: Why is only Nigel funding the club?
So the £4m was paid to the club who used it to clear debt arsing from historic losses. Money that was used to put players on the pitch. I recall that level of "investment" almost took us to the Championship were it not for Jones. So not all bad.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Mon Sep 02, 2024 11:56 am The market value as estimated by an independent valuer was £6m on both occassions, I believe! What are the chances?!? Re: Why is only Nigel funding the club?
Just wondering...
We are told that we can't compete financially with clubs of similar size and similar support. Looking at our current squad, this appears to be true even though Ritchie can sometimes get them to play a bit.
I am wondering if this is the long term situation or just our immediate circumstance. 'Could be the latter because so much money has been committed recently to the new pitch and East Stand upgrades. Also, this Vitesse Arnem stuff might be taking its toll. Dare I hope that next year some of our 'Angels' may feel more inclined to cough up?
Should that not be the case, all this talk of "exciting" signings and new grounds is just pie in the sky.
Isn't it?
