The equation more money invested in players means automatic success is not always proven. Ask Russell Slade.

From what we hear, fans from Charlton did not rate DJ very highly, we shall see ? At least with GM you knew what you had, at least at the worst, a good 30 or 40 minutes worth off the bench.
A players previous club's supporters are not usually wrong . For example Tranmere fans were laughing at us taking Alabi . Look how right they were .Lets just hope Richie can get more out of DJ than Charlton did .
To many on this forum, Alibi was a sort of cult hero !
Only because you could see he gave us everything he had . The unfortunate fact though that wasn't nearly enough .

I really hope you're right though at present I have concerns as we don't have a strong spine in this squad at present. An experienced CM, new LB and replacement GK before the window shuts would make it a lot better though we'll be lucky to see even one of those
How much does the club want to stay in League One and even mount a challenge for the play offs . If that's what they want they had better do what you've just suggested or its going to be an arduous season

I’d love to know if Coley is calling in his debts after what he did to Vitesse.

Qin wrote: Sat Aug 24, 2024 9:40 pm Not only have they not backed Richie, they have let him and the supporters down in a big way

Richie is frustrated as hell, listening to him in today's after match interview.
He desperately want some experience in the side, but all the board have given him are non proven kids.

Everyone brought in this summer have been from the bargain bucket.

We have a board of millionaires & multi millionaires, so what's going on? Why are they not spending anything?

Richie deserves better than this, much better
None of us (including you) know how much money the "board of millionaires & multi-millionaires" actually have.
The club lost £4m last season - so whatever they Did have, as a collective they're 4m down.

Perhaps you'd like to join the board and get spending? No, I thought not.

Just because they have money; it doesn't mean they automatically want to throw it away on folly- good sense (as far as possible) has to be employed.
They're no doubt richer than you ( and I ) but we don't know how rich.

To put it another way- you live in the property you live in because it's no doubt the one you can afford.
If I came and stood outside your place screaming at you to buy a bigger one - it would make no difference - you can't afford to live in another property. Perhaps the board are stretched to the limit already, and fans screaming at them to spend more is simply a physical impossibility.

They might be "millionaires", but a million goes nowhere in the game of football these days.
I believe they have taken as far as they can, so they can either invest more themselves or bring in investors that will bring in the massive investment needed to get us further. As the old saying goes get off the pot or start pissing.
The key word here is of course "invest" which loosely defines as to put (money) into schemes, shares, property, or a commercial venture with the expectation of achieving a profit.

Invest does not equal - p*** money up a wall. And based on the recent losses from the club that's what the current "investors" are doing.

Savvy investors expect a return (or, they won't invest).

We are a club surrounded by much bigger ones, with a hardcore support of circa 5,000 (this is what crowds will be in Feb if we are near the bottom of L1), who do not own their own ground . So on the surface, this looks a precarious investment indeed.

You could say we need to move grounds - -that's £20m required there straight away (with no guarantee of return on investment)
Or, that we need a deep-pocketed billionaire tyoe.
We already did that, and I don't need to tell you how that went- but of course we ended up playing Woking and Havant.

It's easy to shout for money/investors etc etc. It's much harder in the real world actually finding that. Don't hold your breath

Didn't they say their 6 year plan was to be a settled Championship club? Something like that? Can't see much reason not to trust them overall at the moment.

Really and truly at the moment it's a goalkeeping c**kup and I hope to see that definitively rectified this week otherwise yes, questions raised.

Only other recent questions raised for me was the two - in hindsight at least - loan signings in January....

Horses for courses. His strength was to have a long ball played over the top for him to to run onto, trouble was we did not play that particular tactic which was something actually suited what he could do. See this video............
Chester FC striker James Alabi scores 4 goals in first 45 minutes

The plan was I think to be back in L1 in 5 years, which of course has been achieved with aplomb.

I'm sure the Champhionship wasn't mentioned. It would've been crazy to state that since we were a non league club (at the time) and have not been in the Championship since 1982. I am sure it was a L1 plan.

Have the rules changed this season? Having let a number of senior pros go and signed more youths and loans just wondering how we could be so close to the limit already

Fair enough. That's from February 2024.
I thought you were referring to the 5 year plan from when they took over.

A new '6 year plan' to take us to the championship, and would take us to 2030.And since we haven't played there for 42 seasons, that wouldn't seem unreasonable..

Going to reduce debt by £1 million this year and again the following year, that’s why we are not buying any proven, quality players that are playing at our level or above and bringing in inexperienced kids as loans. Can’t see Ritchie staying past January unless things change drastically, home attendances will drop as fans become fed up with unrealistic gate prices and poor football.

No players are cheap any more. Youngsters starting out in the prem are on 100k+ and expect something similar when they move. We're probably still paying some of piggot and moncurs wages, so haven't cut much. I know it's not fun, but we need to be patient and build up the squad for a promotion push over a few years, cutting the cruft and improving gradually
