Theo will NOT be coming back sharpish, ACL knee surgery operation takes a long time to recover from and the recovery cannot be rushed. Many players do not come back as good as they were before and some never come back at all and have to retire, Just hope that Theo does make a good recovery, he is a top man !idontkn0 M wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 11:13 am Painful and surprising to be 0 point from 6 first two games. Take glaring error away and it's a point from Bolton. Then a last minute killer at Charlton. You can read it either way but I think we will turn it and build momentum and be doing better earlier than last season.
At the moment the start is giving a little bit of a reminder of last season's awful start. However we had lost our star signing not long before.
Am hopeful for a point and a solid showing on Saturday and upwards from there.
Please God Graham and Theo come back sharpish.
General consensus seems to be Hemmings had a fairly solid/ok game against Charlton...?

To be totally honest I'm expecting us to lose on Saturday against Birmingham . However I believe things will start picking up for us beginning away to Shrewsbury .idontkn0 M wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 11:13 am Painful and surprising to be 0 point from 6 first two games. Re: Highlights: Charlton Athletic 1-0 Leyton Orient
In truth Hemming had little to do. Possibly could have done better for the goal.
We were not as good as the Bolton game, particularly second half where we didn’t create enough.
For me, we need to see more from Zech if he’s going to start. He’s capable but hasn’t as yet done enough for me.
I’m not convinced we’ll get much against Birmingham but RW will get us right. I’m not sure he’s convinced on his best eleven yet.

Bolton performance was fine. First half v Charlton was ok. Second half v Charlton we just never got going.DrWindy wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 11:43 am In truth Hemming had little to do. Possibly could have done better for the goal.

Seems weird to single out Obeiro v Charlton when ONeill and Donley did nothing. And Obeiro was being played out of position as a 4 alongside Brown.

Galbraith was a massive miss v Charlton, by the way.

Don’t mean to single him out in a negative sense. Trying to make the point that we know there’s a player in there but so far we haven’t really seen it.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 12:06 pmBolton performance was fine. I don’t think you can expect the same from Donley this early. He needs a bit of time to find his feet. I agree with you on O’Neill but he hasn’t seen an awful lot of the ball.
I don’t think RW has quite got us set up correctly just yet. Confident he will shortly.

Why not?
They're exactly the same age. Obeiro has started just 6 league games. Donley has had game time with Spurs first team this pre-season. Why should we expecting more from Obeiro than Donley?
If anything, it's the revers - Donley was playing his preferred 8/10 role, whilst Obeiro was making do as a 4. That's a massive ask of a 19 year old with 6 league starts to his name to fill in and do a job for the team.

Any chance you could describe roles with words or at least abbreviations rather than numbers?

Seriously? This isn't new fangled fancy-dan technical speak anymore. Everyone uses 4/6, 8 and 10 to describe midfielders roles at all levels of the game. And I do mean all levels.

In a dated 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 then yes.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 3:01 pm Seriously? This isn't new fangled fancy-dan technical speak anymore. Everyone uses 4/6, 8 and 10 to describe midfielders roles at all levels of the game. And I do mean all levels.
But not in a 2-7-2 as used by Pep in Germany & also will be employed by thiago motas Juventus after its successful Bologna campaign that qualified them for champions league football.

I said on the match thread, Happe has to win that header, if not do enough to put the striker off or to be blunt late in a game, no yellow card, just utterly clear him out

If Hemmings hadn’t had stinkers in his first two games then he wouldn’t be getting dug out for the goal on Saturday.
He barely had anything to do so hard to make a call on whether he should be binned off. Needs to do something special against Birmingham at the weekend otherwise there’s a strong chance we end up with Howlers as first choice which is mental.

Re: Highlights: Charlton Athletic 1-0 Leyton Orient
For those clutching at straws for positives from him basic catches and claiming loose balls with no opposition nearby constituted a good performance. Had one shot to deal with and it resulted in one goal. Would Brynn have got to it... nope. Would Vigoroux... I think soidontkn0 M wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 11:13 am General consensus seems to be Hemmings had a fairly solid/ok game against Charlton...?

It seems pretty obvious to me. Donley joined the club Friday, doesn’t know the players, management, system or surroundings. Zech has been amongst the first team for a good while now. I think it’s only reasonable to give Donley some time to bed in, but maybe that’s just me.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2024 2:24 pmWhy not?

Not just you - complete common sense, Donley had one training session before Saturday. He will need a bit more than that before he knows exactly how we play.DrWindy wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2024 12:14 amIt seems pretty obvious to me. Totally on board with all of that.
My point was in defence of Obeiro. Expecting more from a 19 year old with 5 league starts to his name when he’s being played out of position to do a job for the team is just bonkers.

Jes you were right I thought Dom Ballard would sign for a championship club this season but think he signed for Blackpool, this is the sort of player we have been missing up front and the type of player RW likes. Why we didn’t go for himTop of the JES wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2024 1:11 amNot just you - complete common sense, Donley had one training session before Saturday. One of the 2, I think. Defensive or box to box midfielder?
