Rooney Watch

Post by Cheshunto »

Got his tenure at Plymouth Argyle off to a sparkling start with a thumping 4-0 defeat at Hillsborough v Sheffield Wednesday 😂
It could and should have been 6 or 7 as Plymouth had their first shot ( wide) of any sort in the 86th minute.
Interesting to see how long the board at Plymouth give him.

Struggle to understand why people seem to revel in the misfortune of one of the best strikers England has ever produced and has had the guts to try and carve a managerial career out of the game post finishing, by managing at lower lge teams. He has no need to still be involved in the game from a financial perspective, he does it because he clearly has a massive love for the game. Seems odd.

Absolutely bonkers decision by Plymouth. The man shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near a dugout after the death by a thousand cuts disaster at Blues.

He’ll likely be gone by late October. Plymouth fans will hope the board don’t wait until it’s too late to pull the trigger.

Probably to be replaced by Ryan Lowe, or Robbie Fowler. Since their chief exec came in (who's from Liverpool), they have hired 4 permanent managers and they've all been Scousers. Very strange decisions.

I do like Rooney a lot, as a player and as a pundit/podcaster. He comes across as a nice funny guy, with ideas how he wants his teams to play. But I fear he has the Chris Waddle's about him when he was at Burnley - can't quite understand how players who aren't as talented as he was can't do the things he wants them to.

Also from a John Ruddy interview wants to be more a manager than a coach, but has a specific tactic standard he wants them to play that required heavy coaching.

The most telling thing was on Stick to Football last week he explained that he wanted his team to do gym work first in pre season and then start playing on a ball for something to look forward to, which Neville, Wright, Keane and Jill Scott disagreed with quite strongly.

Do hope he does well though.

All jokes aside, Plymouth were awful yesterday, how much blame is on Rooney is debatable of course but Wednesday could have scored 6 or 7 .
I hope he does well but fear that this is ‘last chance saloon’ for Wayne.

Is Plymouth another of these south coast retirement towns?

That could be the reason.

Plymouth is a remote sh*thole, with structural social degradation, economic depression, and an ingrained inferiority complex. It's trying to reinvent itself as a student town which, given the state of the university sector, is doomed to fail.

Anybody born there with any "get up and go" about them has got up and gone. And nobody in their right mind wants to move there, unless where they are coming from has somehow managed to be even worse (there's a sizeable Scotch community).

My mate went to uni there in the 90's and it was always good fun heading down there plus my nephew is on the books at PAFC, so started to look out for them.

Union Street in the 90s was an absolute cattle market.
