Re: Zach Hemming vs Bolton and Newport
Hemmings cannot start v Charlton, if he does we are giving Charlton 3 points.
Goalkeepers install confidence in the defenders.
He had nothing to do and when called upon, was awful and made another poor error.

Re: Zach Hemming vs Bolton and Newport
The club have made a massive mistake bringing Hemming here. He is an accident waiting to happen.
Howe isn't league 1 standard, but I'd have him over Hemming all day long.

Re: Zach Hemming vs Bolton and Newport
Whilst I totally agree he has made 2 bad error (1 Bolton and 1 Newport) the first at Bolton I give him the benefit, but you are delusional if you think he is going to be sent back, he is here for the season, he needed to play tonight for confidence and thats not gone well.

Yeah…a national league standard keeper. Properly bizarre to think that because this new keeper is crap settling for another crap one is acceptable. We need to bring in someone who is up to scratch asap.

Re: Zach Hemming vs Bolton and Newport
I tend to agree. I can’t see the “ transfer committee” effectively admitting they have made a major mistake after just two games - it would be a huge loss of face. He’ll certainly be here until January at least. Whether he stays longer than that will be dependent upon whether or not he can put these errors behind him and improve.ELGUS wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2024 10:11 pm Whilst I totally agree he has made 2 bad error (1 Bolton and 1 Newport) the first at Bolton I give him the benefit, but you are delusional if you think he is going to be sent back, he is here for the season, he needed to play tonight for confidence and thats not gone well.

Clare did the same thing on Saturday against Bolton .Monkey Boy wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2024 9:37 amAgree, personally would have put James before Sweeney even though he’s a right back plus still not sure of the lad from Wigan? First half he gifted them a chance by playing it across our pen box using his weaker foot.Adz wrote: ↑Tue Aug 13, 2024 12:36 amWith James on the bench it makes the signing of a right back over a left back all the more odd.Monkey Boy wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2024 6:15 pm
You could tell from the off Saturday that he wasn’t up to it certainly not that game anyway. It may of been a blip however his command of the box, positioning and handling were poor to say the least,we don’t know about his shot stopping, he never got the opportunity.however it maybe a one off and I would play him Tuesday, if only to get his confidence up. As for Sweeney unfortunately the lad try’s very hard but he’s just not good enough and never has been. We desperately need a LB and a decent CF. Kelman can play out wide but when moved into the middle he just can’t hack it imo.

Re: Zach Hemming vs Bolton and Newport
I was wiling to give Hemming the benefit of the doubt after Saturday because all keepers can have a bad day at the office . However tonight he had only one shot to save and made another bad error . I'm now losing confidence in him . Every time the ball comes near our goal I feel nervous . He's beginning to look like a liability . I think maybe we should just cut our losses and send him back to Middlesbrough while we still can . As Biggsy said try and sign Radek Vitek instead .

Re: Zach Hemming vs Bolton and Newport
Interesting to see everyone is a goalkeeping expert now. I played in goal for about 20 years, and I can tell you 90% of it is a confidence thing. I've had shocking seasons that have completely turned around on a single game with a couple of good saves and and good claimed crosses. It's unlikely that he's a poor keeper based on the game time and reviews he's had at previous clubs, and RW choosing to sign him. A good performance next week and I have no doubt he'll come good

Re: Zach Hemming vs Bolton and Newport
I agree. Although my experience only extends to 5-a-side. I think that’s why he was fist pumping after taking a cross in the first half. Psyching himself up, and releasing Saturday’s tension. The spontaneous cheer from the crowd for the same catch may or may not have helped. Not sure if he took it as genuine support or sarcasm.

Re: Zach Hemming vs Bolton and Newport
You've been in that position so I'll accept the benefit of your experience . We're only two games into the new season so will give Hemming more time to settle down. I'm sure he is a good keeper but at the moment he's making me feel nervous every time the ball comes near our goal .Adz wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2024 7:21 am Interesting to see everyone is a goalkeeping expert now. Re: Zach Hemming vs Bolton and Newport
On the flip side another bad error and he'll be so shot mentally it'll be difficult to come back from. The last keeper that made consecutive errors of this level was Shwan Jalal and that was enough that he was never seen again.Adz wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2024 7:21 am Interesting to see everyone is a goalkeeping expert now. Another similar debate was had in NL when the club persisted with two really poor academy keepers with similar "give them a chance" from certain quarters. JE dropped them straight away and the rest is history.
A bad keeper makes the defence jumpy too so it can't be allowed to go on for long whatever the end result.
I'd love to be a fly on the wall of Charlton's analyst department right now, getting balls delivered into the box to exploit the current weakness surely order of the day.

All they need to be told is keep any shots on target .gshaw wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2024 2:53 pmOn the flip side another bad error and he'll be so shot mentally it'll be difficult to come back from. Re: Zach Hemming vs Bolton and Newport
I would be sending Hemming back straight away. You cannot have a keeper that can make a simple mistake at any moment.
The keeper is the most important player in the squad. He must be ultra reliable, if not it's like a time bomb that can go off at any minute.
Hemming flaps at crosses.... He was all over the place against Newport,& again, letting a goal in from a ball he should have dealt with.
Please Richie send him back, you'll regret it if you don't

We’ll see on Saturday when Charlton start pinging shots in from 30 yards….gshaw wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2024 2:53 pmAdz wrote: ↑Wed Aug 14, 2024 7:21 am Interesting to see everyone is a goalkeeping expert now. It’s not just the goals conceded, it’s the hesitation and lack of confidence generally.

Just arrived at work and my QPR supporting mate who I haven’t seen for a couple of weeks said to me straight away “ What’s up with your keeper, he’s horrendous “ I replied, yeah, I know. So far he’s not been good enough.

Is it best that we just get humped on Saturday so we can get a proper keeper in before the window shuts?

Yes. Season ticket or not I’m passing on Saturday. Can’t sit through 90 minutes hoping the ball goes nowhere near our net.Long slender neck wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2024 3:51 pm Is it best that we just get humped on Saturday so we can get a proper keeper in before the window shuts?
