One of the best blasteroonies I’ve seen from Happe in a long time.

The diamond again.
I’ve not seen all the pre seasons but as far as I’m aware this was the first time these 4 had played together. Really disappointing to see our lack of preparation.

Re: Ratings
I’m not sure the ‘diamond’ midfield formation really worked.
I don’t think best use was made of O’Neill and I don’t think our midfield diamond fed Agyei/Kelman enough. Agyei was totally anonymous, swooped out for the even more anonymous Perkins. Our goal came when Happe totally bypassed the midfield and lumped it up to Kelman.
I think we need more width in the side, granted not helped by injuries to Graham and Theo out for yonks.
We’ve got some great young players but I think we need to get the best out of them, different set up and possibly need a bit more experience.
Plenty of things for RW to ponder over.

Re: Ratings
The goal literally came from our game plan.
I agree ONeill is the one player that doesn’t suit the diamond - his best moments came when he got out wide 1v1 in his favoured position - but it suits everyone else in the team. And ONeill seems a smart enough player to learn a new position in pretty short order.

Re: Ratings
I thought our game plan was to press like crazy, the forward diamond player to be feeding Kelman & Agyei and the full backs to be bombing forwards? I thought that was how a ‘diamond’ was supposed to work?Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2024 10:39 amThe goal literally came from our game plan.PKM wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2024 10:18 am I’m not sure the ‘diamond’ midfield formation really worked.

Not bypass midfield and lump it up front, but I sure ain’t complaining about the goal, great vision from Happe and Kelman took it beautifully, be happy with more like it. Let’s mix it up, great, but that goal didn’t come from a ‘diamond’, as the midfield wa irrelevant to the goal. If that’s our game plan, ie mix it up, then that’s all well and good and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a ‘bad’ Orient goal!
As for O’Neill, agree, I think he is going to be a great player for us and I’m sure is capable of doing anything asked of him.

Re: Ratings
You make a good point imho. There is a reluctance to “ mix it up” and improvise a bit a times which I find a bit disconcerting. There is a fine line between adhering to a game plan and becoming stuck in a straight jacket playing wise.PKM wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2024 10:59 amI thought our game plan was to press like crazy, the forward diamond player to be feeding Kelman & Agyei and the full backs to be bombing forwards? Re: Ratings
Kelman admittedly took his goal well but should have scored a second but he’s no middle striker better out wide, Sweeney as I’ve said isn’t good enough, jury is still out on the right back,Brown was the best player, Happe lucky not to be sent off Dan A did nothing and as for the rest of the subs from what I saw, Perkins ain’t going to cut it don’t know about the others. Thought we were worth at least a point over all if not more

That all goes out the window if your keeper gifts the opposition two goals .PKM wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2024 10:59 amI thought our game plan was to press like crazy, the forward diamond player to be feeding Kelman & Agyei and the full backs to be bombing forwards? We played long balls over the defence for both Kelman and Agyei all game.

I’ve had a read about the ‘diamond’ and it seems to omit the lump it up to the front two bit.

Re: Ratings
We’re not lumping it up to the front 2. We’re playing it intelligently into channels for the front two to spin their marker and run onto.
