Why do certain countries excel in certain sports? I find the sociology of sport interesting. Number of reasons. Topology may be one. Cycling is popular in Columbia because it’s mountainous, perhaps. In Britain sport is partly defined by social class; there are traditional public school sports such as hockey, cricket, etc.

Arrogance is by definition a negative trait. I don't see how you can find someone arrogant and not mind it?

A bit gleeful is one thing, but I stand by someone saying it was the highlight of the whole Games is weird. He even acknowledged in the interview afterwards that he hadn't done what he told everyone he would do - ie win - yet seemed pretty stoked with a silver and a new national record. Clearly likes to talk the talk but also dealt well with the egg on his face.

Can you please tell me how much glee I should be able to take from Cocky Kerrs slip up without it being weird?

You're right though, it's not my best moment - that was the delightful Hodgkinson winning the gold she hadn't been trapping off about. Kerr was, aptly, just my second placed highlight.

Popularity, facilities and practice?

I like a bit of badminton, from what I saw the Asian countries dominated it this Olympics. Its a better and more technical sport than Tennis which is just slugging a heavy ball back and forth, but that gets a lot more coverage in western countries. If it was more popular, there's no reason why western countries couldnt do better at this sport.

Money is probably the biggest part right? The UK really nailed the approach of investing cash into events that would give the biggest medal haul per pound spent, which is why we have incredible cycling teams despite a national indifference to cycling. Why we've also tried to go big on swimming as well, despite all our water being full of sh*t and access to pools being pretty limited

A new "sport" makes its debut this afternoon - breaking, otherwise known as break dancing.

Competitors will face off in one-on-one battles consisting of two 60-second rounds, with DJs providing a mix of funk, soul, and hip-hop music. Judges will then vote to determine the winner, based on more than just spins and jumps.

Just got back from Paris,went to ladies hockey final last night and it was truly a night to remember, atmosphere tremendous, Dutch fans brilliant as were the few chinese fans,

Money first, e.g. Equestrian, sailing, velodrome amongst others are all events poor countries struggle to participate in.
Genetics second, e.g. Sprinting, long distance running, etc dominated by certain genetic traits
Grass routes third (i include facilities in this), e.g. swimming in australia, basketball US, etc

Enjoyed all of it. Didn’t feel like there were many wow moments or historically good performances but I love the variety of the Olympics and how much it means to people

Apart from insulting half the planet with the depiction of the last super it was all totally forgettable . You can be sure that the American's will put on a much better show .

Think any Olympics after the COVID weirdness or Tokyo was going to seem like a triumph, but Paris nailed using it's iconic locations to create a distinct feel to the games. The events were intertwined with the place in a way that seemed like no other Olympics has ever done.

Really enjoyed it, helped by the fact that it was a good timezone for watching from the UK.

Apart from it being supper not super, less than 50% of the world being Christian and it being a representation of the Feast of Dionysus and therefore nothing to do with the last super anything, you’re bang on.
