Re: RW podcast
RW also said on the podcast that having the likes of Birmingham and Wrexham in L1 this year has inflated the amount of wages players are demanding, We were in for a defensive midfielder (Tyreeq Bakinson) who was out of contract at the end of last season at Sheffield Wednesday. We lost out to Wycombe and RW said he was shocked at what they are paying him. But clubs like Burton and Wycombe have wealthy new owners and there is more money sloshing around L1.
RW said we need to find players like Ollie O'Neil, Lewis Warrington and Ethan Galbraith and develop them. Longer contracts have been offered to Ethan and Jordan Brown and Jordan is expected to sign soon.
Far from saying he felt let down by the board he was quick to say there was a real togetherness at the club from the chairman through to the fans. ( well some of them).

It’s looking like we might be playing with 2 centre forwards, Kelman and Agyei together.Adz wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 9:57 pm We only play 1 centre forward, you can argue Kelman and Perkins aren't good enough to do that, but 3 players in the squad seems about right for that. Maybe RW will play a false 9 occasionally or something. If you look at prem teams most only have a couple of centre forwards in their squad (Liverpool, man u, spurs, Arsenal, man city, etc).

Certainly lined up like that on Tuesday but we need to score more goals, we need one more out and out striker.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 11:22 pmIt’s looking like we might be playing with 2 centre forwards, Kelman and Agyei together.Adz wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 9:57 pm We only play 1 centre forward, you can argue Kelman and Perkins aren't good enough to do that, but 3 players in the squad seems about right for that. If we are going 2 up top, defo need another striker.
If we’re only going 1 up top, we have enough numbers -Agyei, Kelman, Perkins, maybe DJ - altho im not convinced of the quality.

Re: RW podcast
It’s all a bit predicable isn’t it. The only unknown at this stage is precisely which month we’ll be down to the bare bones and playing people hilariously out of position to cover gaping holes in the squad and ending matches with 0 outright attacking players on the pitch.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 9:57 amYeah, that's fair enough - so long as the additional players do materialise before Agyei/O'Neill/Warrington/Galbraith etc are flogged to death and pick up injuries....Mistadobalina wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 9:51 am We've sorted our starting 11 out, so I can see the logic of then taking time to see what players become available

But its okay for you to judge them against a team that finished second in the Premier League.gshaw wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 10:31 pm Tbh I don't think you can judge any player's coming performances off the back of playing a bunch of very low quality non league sides, a Scottish team barely at League 1 level and Spurs U21s. The only real challenge was Arsenal and that result sounded comfortable for them.

The club and some fans are having the reality check they needed. Re: RW podcast
This seasons squad is also minus our young top goal scorer from last season and will prove as to how fit Agyei is and how many games he plays this season and of course how many goals he scores. You may not have liked Ruel, but end of the day he did not miss many games due to injury and he scored some vital goals. For me Kelman is alike to Ruel in his work rate up top, closing down defenders etc, but can he add regular goal scoring to his game, we shall see, From what I have seen so far of Perkins, he looks like he needs to be a lot stronger and improve a lot on his finishing, especially in only goal keeper to beat situations. Midfield and defence look adequate and perhaps the new loan keeper might be better than last seasons loan keeper. The George Moncur situation is not at all good and looks like if no team takes him, either permanently or on loan, then Os are going to be saddled with a highly paid player who's role will be mainly as an option off the subs bench. Of course if George can get himself fitter, then he can come into consideration as a regular first team player !!gshaw wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 10:31 pmRemember one thing Richie has said in the past, beware the player who has too good a pre-season...Loyal_Supporter wrote: ↑Thu Aug 01, 2024 5:30 pm
Kelman- Been one of our best this pre season so how can you say he is not good enough? Judge him after a few competitive games.
Tbh I don't think you can judge any player's coming performances off the back of playing a bunch of very low quality non league sides, a Scottish team barely at League 1 level and Spurs U21s. The only real challenge was Arsenal and that result sounded comfortable for them.
The squad definitely isn't stronger or greater in depth than last season and relies heavily on Agyei staying fit. Very simple tactic for the opposition now to put him out the game by whatever means then that's our attacking threat gone.
Lots of pressure going to be put on a number of fairly young players this season, it's a gamble but whether it pays off or backfires is going to be very interesting to see.

Re: RW podcast
If we do offload Moncur, there’s no guarantee the money will go back into the playing squad.
We got rid of Piggot but didn’t use the money from his saved wages to bring in another experienced striker. It’s just gone to the investors.

Your fixation with the “investors” Is weird. Any savings on Pigotts wages will go back into the playing budget, some of which will be held back until the January window. But RW still wants two players before this window closes a winger and a midfield player.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 9:51 am If we do offload Moncur, there’s no guarantee the money will go back into the playing squad.

Re: RW podcast
Joe Pigott joined League Two side AFC Wimbledon on a season-long loan deal, so he is still a Leyton Orient player till the end of this season and as such I should imagine that as part of his loan agreement, Os will still be paying part of his wages, so not a win win deal, but at least a saving of money spent.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 9:51 am If we do offload Moncur, there’s no guarantee the money will go back into the playing squad.

If Moncur goes on loan, will most likely be a similar sort of deal.

Hey, I didn't invent the term 'investors'. It's always been 'owners' to me, until this new lot of yank owners decided they had to be referred to as investors.Top of the JES wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 10:02 amYour fixation with the “investors” Is weird. The point remains - if the money saved from offloading Moncs is used on other players, great. But based on the fact the money saved from offloading Piggot has not gone back on another striker, I have my doubts that it will be.

Moncs hasn't gone anywhere and he may stay with us if we can't find anyone to pay a good slug of his wages to take him on loan. as you have said yourself squad not yet complete so money still to be spent.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 10:42 amHey, I didn't invent the term 'investors'. Er it's something we do every season, spend it all up front and then get injuries and you are screwed, We had to spend most of the budget up front last season because of the three injuries to senior pro's we picked up in pre season and we had very little budget left in January. The Reverend wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 10:24 amHolding back budget for the January transfer window when the squad is nowhere near deep enough in August is completely mental.Top of the JES wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 10:02 amYour fixation with the “investors” Is weird. Squad is plenty good enough for mid table which is where we need to be aiming this season.

Don't spend your budget, overwork the players you have got, and you are guaranteed to need to bring players in come January.
Not sure why we've reset our aims from play off contenders to mid table, either.

Re: RW podcast
Accepting financial realities and that we massively over spend as it is, it's not the most optimistic note to start a season on. Guess the trajectory of season on season improvement has to end at some point and we've got a good core of young players that Wellens could do a lot with, so it's possible we overachieve again. But the squad will look very thin if it's only a couple of players coming in. We're short at full back, up front, out wide and cause of Moncur physical and financial weight, a no.10 as well.

League One is a different animal this year Birmingham have spent more on one striker than our entire playing budget - I imagine we have fallen down the pecking order when it comes to budgets - I think mid table would be decent would be delighted to be close to a play off place but have to be realistic.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Fri Aug 02, 2024 11:06 am Don't spend your budget, overwork the players you have got, and you are guaranteed to need to bring players in come January.
