Received a letter (club Newsline) today and to me it reads like the club is trying to muscle in on the O’s supporters bar under the West Stand by making them sell the Shepherd and Neame beer? I thought the supporters club was independent? Have I got this all wrong? Did anyone else receive this?

You are lying. LOFC may use the club on non match days and then use Shep Neame beers. match days and Ale nights LOSC will continue to source its beer as per in the pat and set its own prices as a club. Maybe snacks and soft drinks purchased from Shep Neame but Supporters Club will continue with its excellent ales from small breweries

Unless I too have the got wrong end of stick, it is the bar underneath the South Stand that they are referring to. The supporters club is under the West Stand.
Just to be clear each stand is identified by its position on a compass (clever device that can show anyone the direction of North) So the North Stand is positioned opposite the South Stand and the East stand is opposite the West Stand.
To help you The West stand is in Oliver Road. Further , nearly all churches face East ie the altar is at the East end of the church. So if you forget to bring a compass find the nearest church and use that for reference. In Ruckholt Road there is a church that follows this rule.

At last, the 2024/25 fixtures have been released, a new season is almost under way and it's time to invite members to renew their subscriptions to the Supporters Club. A membership form is enclosed, and we hope that you will continue your support for LOSC in what will be our 47th year.
LOSC is, of course, a members' club, and it is the Committee's responsibility to advise members of any significant changes in the objectives or in the operation the Club. I must therefore inform everyone that the Committee have been in dialogue with the LOFC owners regarding their (LOFC) expectation for more income to be generated from the Supporters Club room. They assure us that this isn't because of any dissatisfaction with our Supporters Club donations, but merely the owners' requirements for increasing incomes from all sales/bar outlets around the stadium - hence, for example, the work being undertaken to improve the ambience and sales of the catering facilities in the under crofts of the East Stand and the refurbishment of the Tommy Johnston South Stand bar.
The owners anticipate that with the club room being sited in a prime location - the only bar area accessible directly from the road - there will be opportunities for LOFC to increase revenues by introducing new non-matchday use of the premises.
It was initially suggested that for convenience of operation the football club could take over the entire management and staffing of the clubroom, buying in the stock, setting prices etc, but giving LOSC members access to the room on matchdays and for club functions. However, the Committee considered this to be unacceptable as it would have contravened our founding principle of LOSC being a 'club for fans, run by fans' - something we feel that members would always endorse.
other stock from their new 'pouring rights' partners, the Shepherd Neame Brewery, whilst the Supporters Club will continue to buy in ales and specialised items of our choosing from our usual suppliers and set our prices as appropriate for a members' club, leaving the football club to have non-matchday use of the club room as required and when they will implement their own pricing structure. The Supporters Club will continue the policy of accepting cash as well as card payments.
With two parties
operating from the same
bar/premises and drawing off much of the same stock it will be difficult for LOSC to calculate an accurate end of season donation to the football club. Instead, after audit, we will report to members the total monies that have been transferred to LOFC each season. This isn't an ideal operational situation from the Committee's perspective and will be subject to on going monitoring as to it's workability, but the arrangement enables LOSC and our members to have continued use of the club room and to determine our own operating practices, while giving access to LOFC to pursue their quest for generating additional revenues.

I think Monkey Boy has highlighted something important here.

It appears the club have 'suggested' they takeover the SC but got knocked back. I expect the club may try this again at some point, I dont know who owns what but I reckon next time it'll be an offer the sc cant refuse.

There's a similar situation arisen at Raith Rovers, where the football club wanted to operate all bars in the ground, although one of the bars is operated by a supporters club which bought in the stock, set prices etc with volunteers on the bar. An issue (for the football club) was that the Supporters club place was undercutting their other FC-run outlets, and they wanted to set prices etc. which is, I suppose, understandable when you're trying to get every penny out of the asset to keep the place going - although it means the end of cheaper pre-match tins for Club members.

This one was "settled" with the football club taking over - it was their premises etc - and so the football club stocks the bar, sets the prices and it's all run through through their till system (they bank the takings etc). It means they can ensure "price consistency" across the site (i.e. it's now more expensive! - although you do get draft beer instead of just tins)

The problem comes, however, when it comes down to staffing. It's their stock and their till, but they want Club volunteers to run the bar and drive the till. That's fine and dandy until there's a shortage on the stock, or the cash doesn't add up. What happens when there's 88 pints of lager used but only 80 pints rung through the till - are they going to hold the volunteers accountable ? It's different when it's a Club to when it's a commercial outlets of the Football Club.

No major issues so far, but it's not entirely satisfactory.
