Huw Edwards, once the BBC's most senior news presenter, has pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children.

He admitted having 41 indecent images of children, which had been sent to him by another man on WhatsApp, Westminster Magistrates' Court heard.

They included seven category A images, the most serious classification - two of which showed a child aged between about seven and nine.

Wouldnt he face 41 counts if that were the case?

Where it all falls apart for Huw, is that I'm assuming these images remained on his computer and were found by Police. If it happened like he said then you'd delete them straight away, in disgust.

It's explained upthread a couple of posts. If you look on your phone's Files app, and look at Images, you'll see photos that you never took, but that someone put in a Whatsapp chat - (for example, right now I'm looking at the view from one of the Barbican towers that my sister in law put in the family chat)

The action of looking at that chat saved a copy of the photo on my phone - therefore, technically, I've "made" that image.

Quite easy to turn that function off if you don’t want your phone getting clogged up with stuff from group chats

I would guess its the lock on your phone (pin/password/fingerprint/etc) that secures this. Maybe he voluntarily unlocked his phone for the cops, maybe they have tools to bypass it.

You'll be delighted to know the Israelis have a great tool for this sort of thing called Pegasus, have a Google.

Edwards received the images from a convicted paedophile (Alex Williams)

Said nonce was convicted this spring of nonce offences so likely arrested some time in the Autumn/Winter

Occam’s razor suggests that an inspection of said nonce’s phone revealed the message’s between him and Edwards hence why Edwards was arrested in November

The BBC were also aware of Edwards arrest at the time

You can set whatsapp up not to download media, and turn on individual chats that you do want.
