Yes, we ned GK, full back but other than that the basis of the squad is there.
We can’t afford a massive deep squad so have to do the best we can and hope injuries don’t hit us too hard
Pigott was only a bit part player because he was a total failure of a signing, we needed that position badly in January. Also add in there Drinan (again ineffective) was replaced by two players who were even more ineffective so what you're really missing there is two quality senior pros upfront.

Sanders we can make do without, it did feel last season we perhaps had one too many midfielders and one too few in the attacking positions. The club saving a few quid on a squad player there and using Obiero to fill the bench / cup games is a reasonable move.

Full backs, goalkeeper and at least one senior pro striker are vital signings. What's telling so far is that aside from swapping El Miz for Warrington we haven't yet signed anyone that makes the first XI of a squad weaker than we ended the season with.

I agree with your summary of what’s required, FB , GK, senior pro striker. Give the injury history of some of the players, eg Graham & DJ, then the squad is thin. Wingers still looks an area we may struggle with.
I don’t think we’re going to get another forward in, RW clearly places a lot of trust in Kelman, with Agei, Perkins, DJ that’s probably it. Relies a lot on Agei keeping fit.

For me personally I don’t mind if we don’t sign players, what I don’t appreciate is being lied to and excuses and promises that the club don’t adhere to. If we haven’t got the money just say it.That would be fine by me personally. I didn’t think they could mess up more than the last window but no I was wrong they are. Most clubs have been in pre season for over two weeks now and played a few friendlies and signed most of the decent free’s. Even Burton yes Burton have been more proactive than us. I fear for the club and can see us struggling. So no more excuses about the squad haven’t had a full pre season,Lings got an ingrowing toenail and can’t manage a phone call or all the hotels are booked up in Torremolinos, sort it out now before it’s to late.

Full back signed, would like to see a new LB though seems unlikely reading the announcement. Sweeney at LB or James filling in doesn't give much confidence.

At least 3 more to go...

Updating this to account for this mornings activity

Players out
1. Sol Brynn (GK)
2. Idris El Mizouni (MID)
3. Shaq Forde (FW)
4. Daniel Abu-Adjei (FW)
5. Khayon Edwards (FW)
6. Adam Thompson (CB)
7. Rob Hunt (RB)
8. Ruel Sotiriou (FW)
9. Max Sanders (MID)
10. Joe Piggot (FW)

Players in
1. Charlie Kelman (FW)
2. Sonny Perkins (FW)
3. Diallang Jaiyesimi (FW)
4. Lewis Warrington (MID)
5. Sean Clare (DF)

Direct replacement for Hunt. Possibly a slight upgrade considering he has more league 1 experience.

Moving in the right direction.

Would really like to see a GK next.

I dont`t agree. We will score goals if we can keep Agyei, Graham, O`Neill and Jaiyesimi fit.
Totally agree. Provided they remain fit we will score goals. We also will have Theo back at Christmas. My main concern is not having an experienced goalkeeper. This must be a priority. RW likes pace up front it would be good if we can get Shake Forde back on loan

Quality Drinan & Pigott. You slated them continually

As in we need to replace them with quality, neither were up to the job in L1. Ironically would rather have had Drinan to the end of the season than the two youths that came in on loan.

We have made 3 good signings in the last with Warrington .Clare and now zac Hemmings as goalie . That almost completes our squad. However there is talk we are after a Colchester midfielder as a swop for Moncur.

Agree that getting Forde back would be good.

I think we need another striker. Way too much pressure on Agyei as the only serious goal threat.

ST required to give a viable option to cover Agyei
LB to improve on Sweeney and keep James on his toes for RB

There's a couple of loan spots left so Forde still possible depending on what Watford think of him after pre-season. Would you take DJ as the striker cover if Forde came back?

We now have 3/5 signed since RW said about being 5 players short, wouldn't be surprised if neither of those last two come in until late in the window

Close though see it slightly differently

Perkins for Drinan (discount the stop gap youth loanees along the way)
DJ for Forde (predominantly wide player)
Obiero for Sanders (cost saving measure)
????? for Pigott (tbc)

2 players left to get in
New left back
Attacking Mid goals/creativity presumably moncur seems to be leaving
That leaves
1 Lb
2 Rb
4 Cb
4 Cm
1 Cam-no 10 whatever you wanna call it
4 wide forwards/wingers
2 central forwards

Yep 💯 agree
The missing piece of the jigsaw is… yep just like it was last season, a No.9 Striker
Deja vu aanyone 😬
Dan Agyei needs help, we cannot rely on Agyei as main No.9 with Kelman as back up, we need another striker.
I hope we have a few players we are working on.

For me Mo Eisa would be ideal, proven L1 goalscorer who is available on a free.

Plus as a bonus, I want Shaq back too 🙏

Don't see the point of a lump as Wellens will never give enough game time to someone who does that role. We need someone else who is physical and can compete in the air whilst pressing and running channels, which isn't quite the same thing - a better Drinan essentially.

Still think we need:
Left Back, with Sweeney as cover
Then this allows James to cover Clare at RB

Leaving the small job of…..
Bringing in a No.9 Centre Forward to support Dan Agyei

Well down RW and team in getting all the players (sorry almost all the players) in with a few weeks to go,

I don’t see it as a well done. We had to sign players. Losing El Miz we are still arguably weaker than last season.

Our problem last season wound up being depth and quality in a couple of positions (full back, maybe keeper). We haven't finished recruiting yet but there's reason to be relatively confident that we'll be better on both fronts, accepting that Mizouni is a big loss and was always going to be.

A lot rides on the no.10 position. We bring someone in who can contribute goals and we'll be much better balanced in our attacking threat. Think it'd also take the pressure off of having another forward - Kelman becomes more serviceable as a first reserve if there's goals from elsewhere.

Likes of O'Neil, Galbraith, Brown, Simpson and Cooper should also continue to improve as well.

Caveating all that by saying I have no idea if any of the new guys are any good. DJ and Clare haven't exactly had glowing reviews...
