Look I’ve just about come to terms with “Keith” being an insult for Keir, can we not do “Keef” as well?

Wish I'd thought of that.

I don't think she did it. Someone/some people, but not her.

There was no forensic evidence to prove her guilt and no one saw Letby – who continues to maintain her innocence – causing harm
Not sure this is true. There were numerous accounts of her standing over babies in and around the time of their collapse.

Several people who voiced their concerns also recognised that they did not sit through the proceedings and did not have access to the extensive case notes used by the expert witnesses – though, during the long trial, detailed accounts of the medical histories of each baby emerged.

They were also aware that several of their questions about evidence had been raised by Letby’s defence in her trial and as core elements of her applications to appeal. Last week, the appeal court – the second highest in the land – published a detailed account of why three judges had strongly rejected all of them.

The Telegraph now joins the Guardian and Daily Mail in publishing articles questioning this case.

I have no idea. But this has all the ingredients for a social media-driven conspiracy mania that could even over-shadow the Kate Middleton event. And I owe it to myself to stir the pot.

Mick McQuaid wrote: Wed Nov 23, 2022 4:20 pm A case like this is incredibly hard to prove, but it doesn't mean the burden of proof changes.

LSN's links are all from the prosecution opening statements which promised a lot but from what I have seen aren't standing up well under examination.

In each case it seems they are having to admit failings in care which could have affected the outcome and complications with the babies health which may be relevant. The doctor called as a witness for the prosecution would go no further than an opinion that air being administered was the most plausible explanation. By definition then there are other plausible explanations, so no where near the proof that is needed.

I disnt realise until I started reading a little more into it that this case was triggered by an investigation into increased mortality on the ward, not through any concerns raised about the nurses conduct at the time.

Tye star witness who now claims to have walked in as she was trying to murder a baby was so concerned at the time he did absolutely nothing about it, not even asking for the alarm that should have been sounding to be looked at. The other people being called as witnesses are a grieving parent and someone who saw her standing in the doorway of a darkened room.

I'd still say on the balance of probability she did it, but the prosecution don't seem close to beyond reasonable doubt. Also relevant to my view is the number of times plod have fitted someone up in cases like this by only being interested in the evidence that strengthens their case and then saying there's an overwhelming amount of it. This is the perfect case for a miscarriage of justice, no firm evidence, a suspect who appears to be vulnerable and a case built years after the events - the alleged offences took place in 2015/16. They need to be doing a lot better than they are at the moment to get a solid conviction.

Great analysis as usual
For what it's worth, I'm happy to accept she's guilty but a lot of the evidence at the trial was scientifically illiterate. She probably is guilty but it'll keep the true crime podcasts in business for years.

I understand that they picked only certain days and not all days. How can you then compare?

This case has always felt odd.

Not having a clue about the science that either supports or contradicts the guilty verdict isn't gonna stop absolute idiots from piling in as if they understand any of it.

Having been on Jury service several times I hae mae doubts as whether Joe Public fit to serve on Jurys. One case a bloke was accused of trying to pay in $10,000 dollars into a dollar account , the only being 3 different serial numbers on all the bills. One lady wanted acquit as she was passed one fake dollar bill in Greece. She said: " It can happen to anyone!"

And so? People do weird stuff. I've worked somewhere where the individual in charge routinely took sensitive files, that should never leave the building, home with them. And at an insurance company where hundreds of insurance claim forms were found sellotaped under a desk and squirreled away in a filling cabinet (presumably too complex for the person who put them there).
