We need someone else who can also do that lone striker role. As things stand, take Agyei out and we are totally ineffective up top.

Rubbish, Agyei isnt a hold up man, you dont get the injuries he did being a hold up player. That comes from his running in a Wellens side. Agyei games after 1st injury, 1-1 Wigan, 1-1 Bristol R, 1-0 Chestrfield, 0-3 Derby, 2-1 Cheltenham(0-0) when he left the pitch,3-2 Bolton (came on at 3-2), 1-0 Charlton assist for Beckles0-0 wycombe replaced injured Ruel, 0-2 Cambridge scored 2nd,Portsmouth scored 3rd, Bolton 1-0 , Reading 1-1 scored. His contribution roughly helped us to 16 points, while Ruel played his role in over 60 points. Hold up mangshaw wrote: ↑Sat Jul 06, 2024 9:12 pmNot talking about his goals, it's the other parts of his game that takes the pressure off the rest of the team. The reason why we looked toothless with Sotiriou in that role and soon as Agyei came in we actually had a clue as an attacking unit. You won't see it on a highlight reel but the difference in results when he came in spoke for themselves.

Re: It Seems We Cannot Compete...........
You are the only one calling him a ‘hold up man’.
Gshaw said he can hold the ball and provide a physical presence up top. He’s right. For some reason you’ve honed in on his choice of words - holding the ball - and interpreted that as him saying Agyei is a hold up player.
I’ll rephrase that for him. Agyei is the only forward player we have with enough physical presence to keep the ball up that end of the pitch. Piggot should be able to but can’t run and hopefully won’t play for us again. Drinnan could but was always injured and was lacking in other departments. All of Ruel, Kelman, Forde, Edwards etc are/were too weak to physically compete with L1 centre halves.
We need someone else with a similar physical presence up top, our whole game plan collapses without that.

Re: It Seems We Cannot Compete...........
gshaw talks of Ruel as BEING merely just an option off the subs bench but in actual fact he played many games as a starter in the Os lineup. Yes he missed some goal scoring chances and his ball control needs improvement, BUT for all the things he needed to improve upon, instead lets look at what Ruel is good at. Fit player who is fairly injury free ( long may that remain so ! ) a regular goal scorer and works hard closing down opposition defenders, something that Richie has praised him for ! gshaw had a downer on Ruel and even if he had scored 30 goals a season, he would have still not liked him ! Lastly a happy and popular player amongst his team mates !Rubex Kube wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2024 7:51 amRubbish, Agyei isnt a hold up man, you dont get the injuries he did being a hold up player. Re: It Seems We Cannot Compete...........
You sarcastically wrote ‘Ruel too weak yet scored goals’ etc. I like Ruel and if the money had been right would have liked him to stay. But he doesn’t have the physical presence to play up top on his own.Rubex Kube wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2024 8:37 am I Never said they would & we wouldnt either with a fully fit squad. You then sarcastically write about Agyeis injury problems. This only backs up gshaws position - the reason Agyei broke down again was because he was over used on his return. And that was because we didn’t have another option up top to play that lone striker role adequately.
We need another player up top that could lead the line on their own in place of Agyei. And as a minimum they need to be physically strong enough to compete with L1 centre halves and keep possession (ie hold onto the ball!).

Re: It Seems We Cannot Compete...........
We could do with another striker who plays like Agyei. If we build a system around him and he gets injured in the first month of ten season then we’re f**ked again. We don’t have a big enough squad to change our system if Agyei gets crocked and right now our only alternative striker is Kelman, who is largely dogshit.

Exactly.
Also worth remembering that Agyei was originally brought here as a wide player.

You wrote Ruel along with Kelman Forde were to weak to compete against L1 Centre halfs, GShaw moaned about Agyei being to weak & only making 11 appearences against L1 Centre Halfs, Ruel Sotoriou scored 11 goals in 42 League games with little support from Kelman Forde Edwards etc against L1 Defenders you claim he was too weak to deal with, Then sarcastically blame me for your bullsh!t arguments.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2024 9:46 amYou sarcastically wrote ‘Ruel too weak yet scored goals’ etc. I like Ruel and if the money had been right would have liked him to stay. Re: It Seems We Cannot Compete...........
When Travis & Teague came here, we were a non league club.
Wages were low, most players were on £1000 to £1500 per week, now we're league 1, & players are expecting around six times that, and the two T's, just can't or won't pay that.
I think the reality is being in the 3rd tier, has shocked them from a financial point of view.
It appears a decent striker in this league commands North of 6 grand a week, and unless the club pays it,\will not be able to sign a decent striker
When Agyei's contact runs out, his agent will demand that kind of money, and we'll lose him to a club that will pay him that
League 2 is probably the level our owners will be comfortable in

I feel the board and Ling have given us a lot of kidolidgy. It was all to do with selling Season Tickets. They put out the about exciting incoming transfers. RW was the subject to other clubs getting him, just before the ST deadline then lo and behold, he signed a new contract within 24 hours just a few days before the deadline. Funny how the club can move fast when it wants to? If you call 2 very poor loans and a knackered ex long term injury player exciting signings? Personally if I knew then what I know now I wouldn’t have renewed. Which ever way you look at this it’s been yet another poor transfer window this far,we have all been sold a puppy.

And Os fans still await with baited breath the arrival of the ''exiting signings''
More realistic to be expecting are more loan signings and still no decent Keeper or fullback signed up.
As it is at present, makes me wonder why with only 2 fullbacks on the books, why did they release Hunt ?
