As I've always said, it's not the size that matters, but what you do with it that counts.
Also demonstrating the importance of winning over literally nobody and relying on the collapse of the Tory vote to Reform. 4d chess at its finest.

Yes. Applying knowledge of how the electoral system actually works turns out to be a good idea.

Most of these constituencies are still full of people who want a Tory government, they just voted for Reform and the Labour candidate snuck in. Very few people have been won over by "The All New Labour Party".

That's what happens when you stick to an archaic voting system. Most of the population aren't getting what they want.

BBC predicting this will be the 2nd lowest turnout since 1885, only 2001 was lower.

What a sorry state of affairs.

I think there's another way of interpreting this. It's not so much that they want a Tory government, but that immigration has dominated voting decisions to such a degree. Labour have no answer to this, of course, but have been careful to limit anything during the campaign to spook these voters.

In very simplistic terms, looks as if a small %age of Labour voters will have gone to Green, a similar chunk of tories will have gone to Labour, and a f*** load of Tory voters went to reform.

Let’s be clear, Labour didn’t win this election. Reform have won it for them.

These are properly worrying times.

Is it fair to call it the "immigration election"? No doubt there'll be lots of analysis over the coming months, but that must have been the single biggest driver of voters from Tory to Reform, no?

I agree that these are worrying times.

Reform picked up a lot of votes. Just how racist and obsessed with immigration is this country? It is worrying if Nigel does his best Trump impression a lot of people will fall for it.

Absolutely nailed on that the vast majority of Reform voters either didn't bother voting or voted against electoral reform when it was offered in 2011.

Obviously, Labour will now ditch any consideration of electoral reform. But:

Reform: 4 Million votes = 4 seats
Lib Dems: 3.4 Million votes - 69 seats

If the smaller parties could work together and try and convince enough labour backbench MPs to the cause, there is a genuine case to be made for PR. But it will mean an alliance between the likes of the Greens and Reform, which will require leftists to adopt a policy of pragmatism over ideological purity. So we know that won't happen.

GBPUSD unchanged this morning and unchanged in the run up to the election. Currency market has it right, unchanged will just about sum up this labour goverment over the previous conservative one. That is until they start going rogue. I give it 12 months.

Considering the negligible growth in Labour votes and the reform success do we just see the tories now lurch even further right and sweep the next election?

Wonder if Farage is considering crossing the floor to the tories so he can contest the leadership 😂

If Starmer had not meddled with Chingford & Woodford Green, Faiza Shaheen would have won it for Labour. Instead, Duncan Smith retains the seat.

So another success for Sirkieth.
