I think we all do - but given that we want established quality and don't want to groom it we shop at clubs above us generally.

We have already missed out on some good signings to clubs like Bristol Rovers, Lincoln,Wycombe and Stevenage, hardly clubs that you would think that can out muscle us in the transfer market imo. I’m wondering if Mr Wellens is regretting his decision to sign a new contract
I agree . I wonder how many good players we've missed out on because we were too slow .
Ritchie does not want the sort of player these cubs are signing, because it will not reflect the type of football he wants us to play. He also knows we can't pay 40% more than our top earners to get them either. In that he's a realist - and we should be realists too.

And if its regretted then it don't show as his #2 signed on for 3 years today.

How many ‘established quality’ players have we brought in under Richie? (The sort that we’d be competing with other clubs to sign and paying big ish money).

Moncur for the promotion season. Agyei for last season. Is that it?

Mostly it’s unproven/injured/out of form players with something to prove, because they will fit our budget. El Miz, Galbraith, ONeill, Graham, Cooper, Simpson, Piggot (oof).

Last year was different. Although we lost Smyth, Vigs and Kelman we kept all 5 out of contract players. We probably "pushed the penny down the line" as loan replacements largely filled the void (I'd count El Miz in the equation of players Ritchie brought in btw). It means this year there's more to do.

Ritchie has always said he won't bring players in for the sake of it (although he always wants players lol) and letting Sanders go is a case in point. He just does not fit the project well enough. We all think Piggott is like that and expected him to go first. He didn't - but he will go. Ritchie would like to have 22 good un's but would rather have 11 that were in his plans than 16 where 5 were floaters. A fans forum will never have enough patience for news of players - especially on this board.
