There is another bigger issue that the Public are unaware of. Most of the Privatisations ( especially the early ones ): BT, British Gas, the Electricity Boards, Thomas Cook etc; were very big revenue sources for the Government. These were never replaced & people wonder why everything is falling apart whilst taxes are high. Mrs Thatcher was a crook of the highest order.

On this subject I 100% agree with you . Not only the water industry but privatisation as a whole doesn't work . It's just big profits for shareholders at the expense of its employees and customers .

When the utilities were sold the government held golden shares, under Major and Blair they relinquished these. The idea was that people and pension funds could invest and have a good income.

But regulation has been very weak, the equivalent of a chocolate teapot and this is why we have this problem.

I have always felt that we should have control over all our utilities, not being run by foreign companies, who are only interested in the dividends, just like the road and bridge tolls.

What is funny is how someone like Corbyn is labelled a national security threat, yet he'd have all utilities back under our own public ownership in no time, instead of being at the mercy of foreign Governments and foreign pension funds and foreign bankers as we are now.

Not sure if it's the UK or maybe just England to have the only privatised water supply and sewage in the World. It's deemed too important an asset, and a basic need for life, in every other Country. Look how that has turned out and I can't see it getting better any time soon whilst shareholders continue to demand high dividends.

Ok, fine the company £15billion for corporate mismanagement or whatever. That should see them walk away.

Do not bail out the shareholders or debt holders. Presumably there's no obligation to do so.
