Rare to see quite such a warm obituary, he seemed to be universally liked and respected (apart from one particular guy in Turkey).

What a fantastic piece. Full of warmth, affection, and humility.

For me, he was Orient's best loanee ever. (Idris is cracking of course but more of a slow-burner)
The impact Campbell had was immense. From memory, we were 17th and going Nowhere, in 88/89 when Campbell joined.
We'd just been knocked out of the FA Cup by Enfield (at home!) a few weeks before, and the club looked rudderless and the players lacking in all belief.
We didn't look in danger of relegation, but we were closer to the bottom than the top, without doubt.

Kevin Campbell didn't just make a personal impact in my opinion - he changed the attitude and spirit within the whole squad (and club). Suddenly, the players found confidence as we started to put results together.
I think he got 9 goals in 16, but that doesn't tell the full story.
In my opinion Orient would Not have got promoted that season without Kevin Campbell.

Clearly, he was a fine chap off the pitch too. In a bitchy and two-faced world, you don't get to be that well-liked by accident and for sure Kevin was well-liked.
54 is such a young age to die. I can imagine his poor family are devastated in every sense of the word today :-(

I remember when we played Grimsby Town, KC hit the ball so hard that the goalkeeper was taken over the line with the ball.

Kevin gave an interview on one of our podcasts about his time at Orient, and what really came across was his attitude. He had such self confidence, such enthusiasm, such determination, such a will to win, such belief in his team mates. He loved the hostility and adversity of away games, yet was a genuinely nice guy. He was 100% a winner, very sad to hear of his passing at a young age, RIP and condolences to his loved ones. What he achieved for us at Orient was amazing for us as a club.

My enduring memory of his time with us was his ability to head a ball - jump early to get over the ball then seem to hang around a while before the ball arrived then give it an almighty thwack with his head.

And at the Everton FA Cup in 02 (?), a pre-match presentation to him from our Supporters’ Club (?).

Very sad news. His goals in '89 played a big part in our promotion; O's fans will remember him.

Can only echo what everyone else has said above. You always get the ‘what a nice guy’ quotes when someone dies but this does appear to genuinely be the case with Big Kev.

That was one of the most cringeworthy things I’ve ever seen at a football game. He took it with good grace but looked totally bemused by the whole thing
