Sid Bishop wrote: Mon Jun 10, 2024 7:49 pm Meanwhile while many UK political parties wish to spend ever greater sums of money on public spending such as the the NHS, welfare etc, take into consideration that Government spending is completely out of control and debt repayments on the current national debt in the year ahead is expected to be around 89 billion pounds a year !!

Debt interest (central government, net of APF)
''in 2024-25 we expect debt interest spending to total £89.0 billion. That would represent 7.3 per cent of total public spending and is equivalent to nearly 3.2 per cent of national income''
https://obr.uk/forecasts-in-depth/tax-b ... nment-net/
Hmm - interesting. Is it good or bad news? Should we be worried?
The national debt recently exceeded £1 trillion for the first time and is currently equivalent to around two-thirds of annual economic output (GDP).

Mr. Micawber's famous quote....Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen pounds nineteen and six, result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds naught and six, result misery !!
Mr Micawber - really? This is the same chap who also said, ‘Welcome poverty!..Welcome misery, welcome houselessness, welcome hunger, rags, tempest, and beggary! Mutual confidence will sustain us to the end!’

Sounds like a real right-wing Tory crank to me, so I wouldn’t take any notice of anything that comes out of his mouth.

How would one get “typical views” out of a potential pool of a few million voters?
Maybe you could ask a significant enough sample size some questions to ascertain those views? Like a survey, or something.

That or just go with one's own preconceived stereotypes (see the 'cranks', purple haired, yoghurt knitter tags applied to anyone left of centre, as an example of this approach).

But there’s likely to be diversity of viewpoint amongst millions of people who would need identifying in the first place.

Also, how would define typical views? What would the threshold between widely held, typical, popular be etc?

Telephone interviewer: Good morning, do you intend on voting Reform at the next General Election?

Interviewee: No.

Telephone interviewer: Good bye.

You won’t get a properly representative sample size through telephoning polling alone.

You also need to ascertain their likelihood of voting as well as their voting intention

Yes, like I say there's always nut jobs...remember that holocaust denier quite a few years back, Irwin or something, his name?
Especially when the party is inherently composed of racist cranks
I know, makes you wonder how we live with all the millions of Hitlers.
Have you thought much about what Farages longer term game plan might be?

What would the UK look like?

Interviewee has been selected using best current practices as adopted by Ipsos and Gallup etc (not that lord ashcroft, I don't trust him one bit).

Interviewer question 1: What is the likelihood you will vote at the forthcoming General Election? Certain, very likely, probable, possible, typical, unlikely, no chance, don't know?

Interviewer question 2: Will you vote for Reform at the forthcoming General Election? Definitely, Probably, Maybe, No chance I'm not a racist, don't know.

Now can you stay on the line for another 30 mins so I can ask you questions about everything under the sun so we can build a profile to stereotype you and other Reform voters?

Hello, Sir are you still there?

Far left of Labour. There is no such thing. What remains of it is a mildly social democratic rump pinning for restoration of the post WWIi settlement between capital and labour.

The people who kicked Blairites out of positions and forced Corbynites in place.

Anyone not voting for Labour because they incorrectly think Starmer is as bad as the Tories.

His actions since making that statement have been contrary to everything in that statement. He's even accusing the Tories for being like Corbyn.

Sirkeith has all the potential to be worse than the Tories. He's even adopted some of their key policies.

The easiest and most effective way to mitigate child poverty in the UK is to abolish the two child limit the Tories introduced. Sir Kid Starver won't do it which tells me all I need to know.
