Re: Labour Watch
LOL at the Momentum lot, as the penny drops that election strategies matter, and that distribution of votes can be more important than quantity.

Re: Labour Watch
The Tories should campaign for a change to our voting system, so they receive a proportion of seats in Parliament that accurately represents the number of votes they received.

Re: Labour Watch
Seems like a good time to drop this and hope no one notices.
7 years on and still beggars belief at the lengths some people inside the Labour machine were prepared to go to help the Tories win.

Re: Labour Watch
Not their money and helped stamp out the left within labour, so I'm sure they'd argue it was well spent.
Presumably the only reason they've binned it off is the left within Labour have now been removed/silenced.

That and they really don't want it dragging on into Parliament.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Thu Jun 06, 2024 10:18 amNot their money and helped stamp out the left within labour, so I'm sure they'd argue it was well spent.

Re: Labour Watch
I see the “But 2017” klaxon has been sounded again, only got to Wednesday this week.
Re: Labour Watch
If only Labour hadn’t wasted money on that, they’d be free to not waste it on campaigning for this election campaign. As it is, Labour are doomed to lose

Re: Labour Watch
Dunners you should probably amend it to “some of” the momentum lot. They definitely haven’t all had the penny drop

Re: Labour Watch
Oh, FFS! I recall attending a housing policy workshop with the Labour team and nobody there - including UK Finance (who represent the banks) - thought this was a good idea.

So is this better or worse policy than Help to Buy?
And what will it mean for the price of my houses?

Re: Labour Watch
It's better that H2B, as it doesn't just pump tax payers money into the pockets of the volume housebuilders to construct sub-standard tower blocks of sh*tty rabbit hutches.
But in the medium- to long-term it will increase volatility and risk, as the tax payer will be a guarantor on high LTV mortgage products without allowing space and time for a more 'natural' market correction. Short term, it could benefit you in terms of providing more demand for your house. But longer term we will all lose.
When even the bankers are saying it's dodgy, you'd think people would listen. But thicko middle-class, middle-aged parents will probably just hear it as an opportunity to finally kick their kids out of the family home. So I can see how it plays electorally.
(I also wouldn't be surprised if the policy is watered own or never comes to light in the proposed form)

Re: Labour Watch
Hmm typical market based solution. These never solve anything. Bypass the market by volume building houses for affordable rents. If only Keith could see it.Dunners wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2024 12:47 pm It's better that H2B, as it doesn't just pump tax payers money into the pockets of the volume housebuilders to construct sub-standard tower blocks of sh*tty rabbit hutches.

Re: Labour Watch
Are they sure this is a Labour policy? Surely propping up the market, the house builders and the banks with this sort of nonsense is a Tory idea?

Re: Labour Watch
I would expect this means house prices will remain artificially high for a little bit longer, the problem being kicked a little further down the road.Currywurst and Chips wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2024 12:34 pm So is this better or worse policy than Help to Buy?

Say what you like about Corbyn, but when it came to commemorating your fallen heroes, at least he stayed for the whole ceremony.
