Not their money and helped stamp out the left within labour, so I'm sure they'd argue it was well spent.

Presumably the only reason they've binned it off is the left within Labour have now been removed/silenced.

Oh, FFS! I recall attending a housing policy workshop with the Labour team and nobody there - including UK Finance (who represent the banks) - thought this was a good idea.

So is this better or worse policy than Help to Buy?

And what will it mean for the price of my houses?

It's better that H2B, as it doesn't just pump tax payers money into the pockets of the volume housebuilders to construct sub-standard tower blocks of sh*tty rabbit hutches.

But in the medium- to long-term it will increase volatility and risk, as the tax payer will be a guarantor on high LTV mortgage products without allowing space and time for a more 'natural' market correction. Short term, it could benefit you in terms of providing more demand for your house. But longer term we will all lose.

When even the bankers are saying it's dodgy, you'd think people would listen. But thicko middle-class, middle-aged parents will probably just hear it as an opportunity to finally kick their kids out of the family home. So I can see how it plays electorally.

(I also wouldn't be surprised if the policy is watered own or never comes to light in the proposed form)

Hmm typical market based solution. These never solve anything. Bypass the market by volume building houses for affordable rents. If only Keith could see it.

I would expect this means house prices will remain artificially high for a little bit longer, the problem being kicked a little further down the road.
