Players you wanted to succeed at Orient, but didn’t quite do it…

I will start: Jay Simpson. Two spells and shaped up well. He had slightly bandy legs.

James Alabi, great guy, great work ethic, awful finishing
Dale Gorman, never seemed to mentally get over his bad injury
Adam Thompson, another good egg but badly affected by injury

Wasn’t he the first player in donkeys years to score 20 goals in a season? And in that FB era as well. I’d say he did alright

First ones to spring to mind:
Dean Morgan
Adrian Patula - no idea why I wanted him to do well

Christian Scales was a very good prospect.

Darius Henderson. Easily my top one.

One of the most physical players I’ve ever seen and should have been a beast at L1 level. I was so looking forward to seeing what he could do.

He had some great proper old school battering ram centre forward displays and his scoring record wasn’t bad but other matches he just didn’t look bothered and was not fit to wear the shirt.

Big wages. Big reputation. Just didn’t deliver.

I do wonder though how much of it was being part of the circus and the shenanigans of ‘You know who’ and if that might have affected him badly.

20 goals in a season is very creditable, certainly, but I yearned for more. He was a real goal poacher - I wanted a touch of the Messis…

Jabo!

Someone that could go past 5 players with ease, to get himself in front of goal and fall over.

How can anyone say Jabo didn't succeed at Os?

Another vote for Gary Taylor (as was) and Lorenzo Pinamonte.

Two somewhat left field ones

Shwan Jalal - signed in a rush to cover the recalled cover GK Jakupovic, was hoping he could make himself a cult hero but as he flapped at crosses he wrote himself into folklore for other reasons

Robbie Simpson - striker we got from Cambridge I think around the same time, try as he might nothing worked for him. Again I recall him coming on when we needed a goal and ending up conceding a free kick in the opponent's half which ended up as a goal against, quite possibly due to the hapless Jalal
