Re: Russia / Ukraine Watch
Looks like it's nearly over with the Russkies advancing quickly on the second city. I blame Israel.
Ukraine's Zelenskiy postpones foreign visits amid Russian offensive
Further to the news earlier that Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskiy had cancelled a visit to Spain and Portugal (see 08.54 BST), his press secretary has now said that all upcoming foreign visits scheduled for Zelenskiy have been postponed.
“Volodymyr Zelenskiy has instructed that all international events scheduled for the coming days be postponed and new dates coordinated,” Sergii Nykyforov said on Facebook, according to Reuters.

I also blame the Western military-industrial complex. It turns out that private contractors maximising profit margins all these years through high-end weaponry have not been able to transition to lower-grade, but higher-output supply chains.
Iran, N Korea and Russia have demonstrated success at manufacturing munitions that, while not excellent, are good enough and at a volume Western manufacturers are just not incentivised to replicate due to the tight profit margins. When a US warship has to fire a $2m missile to take out a $20K Houthi drone, even if the missile is successful, the Houthis kinda win.

So you're telling me NATO did not plan for a protracted land war in Euroland!! FFS!! What are they even there for? Maybe then can send some troops to Ukrainia?Dunners wrote: ↑Wed May 15, 2024 12:15 pmI also blame the Western military-industrial complex. Instead, you want to blame the innocent western industrial complex who are doing their best to earn a few bob in difficult circumstances.
Mibees the Yankees can dip into their stockpiles held at the 800 bases around the world to help out. They just need to be nicer to China to square them off until the stockpiles can be replenished.

Re: Russia / Ukraine Watch
Threads gone a bit quiet. Any body know if its still worth bothering about Ukrainia now that Trump is the El Presidente?

Re: Russia / Ukraine Watch
Trump being elected president could give the anti-NATO cranks the outcome they've always wished for.
As for Ukraine, I explained the strategy earlier on in this thread; bleed Russia out as much as possible so that, should they achieve any sort of "victory", they'll be too depleted to attempt any further annexations for the foreseeable future. All while trying to avoid serious escalation.

Re: Russia / Ukraine Watch
Isn't Trump more inclined to give his partner in crime Putin what he wants rather than delivering for the anti Nato cranks. Remembering of course that it was NATO encroachment and CIA interference that precipitated the current conflict.
Your analysis of strategy is almost correct but you fail to emphasise the "proxy war" aspect of the war. So only a B+.
What about China and North Korea?

Re: Russia / Ukraine Watch
It's not a proxy war. It's a semi-direct war. A proxy war would be preferable.

Re: Russia / Ukraine Watch
The ante has well & truly been upped.
Putin would be somewhat justified if he directly attacked Western interests in Europe
I've been convinced that America wants a war with Putin anyway, & this makes the odds of that happening a tad shorter

So from proxy war to semi direct war to open war. You never mentioned this before.Dunners wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 10:27 pmIt's not a proxy war. It's a semi-direct war. A proxy war would be preferable.

Re: Russia / Ukraine Watch
What sort of interests would Putin be justified in attacking?
Is helping Ukraine defend itself so bad?
