Re: Labour Watch
I’d be wary of being too supportive of him. I think it’s very likely that what he’s been accused of is extremely serious. The timing may well be convenient for his political opponents, but let’s see how this plays out

Re: Labour Watch
How this will play out is he won’t be able to stand for election and another leftie will have been culled by sirkieth.
(Don’t know the guy nor what he’s alleged to have done, but come on)

Re: Labour Watch
Maybe Starmer has overreached himself in his determination to dictate who is and who isn't Labour?

For all the attempts to ridicule and undermine and silence her: good on Diane for continuing to refuse letting the hostile media and Starmer agents silence her.

Re: Labour Watch
I'm less fussed about whether a leftist candidate gets to stand as candidate for Labour. If they failed to organise themselves properly and take control when they had the chance, then that's on them. And maybe it's best for all involved that everyone knows where they stand (or not).
What is more of an issue is the number of Labour candidates who come from a media background. I get the long-game, as they are preparing for a long-term in office and a relatively compliant relationship with the press. But it is grim.

Re: Labour Watch
She ran IDS close last time out - suspect the change won’t make much difference as he’s fairly unpopular locally regardless.
Ultimately the ongoing shenanigans over selections isn’t a surprise - labours NEC / Starmer has spent the last 4 years punching leftwards and Abbott was politically an idiot for providing an opportunity for the party with an opportunity to get rid of her. Labour though have made a dogs dinner of handling her removal though.

Moi:- Most people at reaching the age of 70, having an opportunity to retire gracefully, would snatch your hand off. Abbott decided not to play ball, proving your point about being a Political idiot. Who in their right minds, want someone over the age of 70 representing them ? ( oh yeah the Yanks )

Re: Labour Watch
He needs to watch, re watch (?) this just to remind himself of the type of people who are in charge.
Labour’s pathetic point scoring against the left will lose them support and could ultimately cost them the Election.
I was only going to vote in this election if there was a socialist candidate (not Labour obviously) but in my SNP/Labour marginal seat I'm going to vote SNP for the very first time.
In England I would urge left leaning Labour voters to either vote socialist/independent/Green or abstain.
Corbyns ecumenical approach was the biggest mistake he made. As I said at the time he should have cleared out the Red Tory neo liberals toot sweet.

Re: Labour Watch
It was fine for Corbyn and his supporters to deselect and kick out Labour members because they politically aligned differently, as soon as Starmer does it, the very same people lose their minds.

Re: Labour Watch
The irony is that they didn't kick out enough of them. An elementary error as any Trotskyite can attest.BiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2024 9:44 am It was fine for Corbyn and his supporters to deselect and kick out Labour members because they politically aligned differently, as soon as Starmer does it, the very same people lose their minds.
Now they're bleating because they didn't have the political vision to create a truly democratic party capitalising on the surge of grass roots support they enjoyed. 600,000 strong it was at one time. Totally disillusioned and wasted.

Never mind Maxy, in another 5 years you will have a chance to strive to get another Tory Government. You ain't gonna succeed this year.

Re: Labour Watch
As Centrem Dad above has already pointed out, they didn't do this. (Possibly because they had to, numbers wise, I know).BiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2024 9:44 am It was fine for Corbyn and his supporters to deselect and kick out Labour members because they politically aligned differently, as soon as Starmer does it, the very same people lose their minds.
This was one of their problems - they weren't c**ty enough when they had the chance.
Re: Labour Watch
Ah yes, I remember at the time all the lefties were saying “let’s not deselect the those we believe shouldn’t be in labour, that’d be a c***’s trick”

How many MPs did Corbyn de-select?
I've lost count of how many Kier is up to. Is it double figures yet?

Re: Labour Watch
Eh? I wasn’t talking about how many were deselected. I’m referring to how happy lefties were to discuss and advocate for deselecting MPs who weren’t left wing enough. I’m not even saying they were wrong or out of order to want to do so; just pointing out that it was an unremarkable and regular talking point among left wing supporters of labour during the Corbyn eraHoover Attack wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2024 10:27 amHow many MPs did Corbyn de-select?

Re: Labour Watch
They did though. My friend was expelled for being involved with another left wing party. It was happening en masse.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2024 10:14 amAs Centrem Dad above has already pointed out, they didn't do this. If people are ok with Corbyn and his supporters doing it, they have to accept what is happening now.

Party members deciding who they want to represent them through democratic procedures is of course fine.CEB wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2024 10:35 amEh? I wasn’t talking about how many were deselected. The leader dictating to members who they can't have represent them is not.

Re: Labour Watch
Labour will never be truly democratic because the various left wing factions refuse to give room to other ideas. They want their niche political view to be front and centre.Max B Gold wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2024 9:57 amThe irony is that they didn't kick out enough of them. Complete own goal for Labour with every age cohort supporting the decision more than disagreeing, bet he regrets it now
