Vennells
Anyone else following this?
Absolutely fascinating to see the (lack of) thought processes at the top of the Post Office on her watch. I struggle to understand how people like her get to the positions they're in with such negligible understanding of what they're in charge of.
Also infuriating to see such selective memory loss and the almost wilful misinterpretation of documents warning of errors in Horizon. There was one where someone basically said he could prove there were serious issues and she will end up before a public enquiry to explain herself, and the author was dismissed as a 'bluffer'.
I still fail to understand why the PO seem so keen to protect Fujitsu, I would have thought that as soon as they realised they'd been sold a dud they'd be all over them.

Re: Vennells
Not sure she had a negligible understanding at all, just playing dumb to save her skin. Also assume Fujitsu has something on the post office that will come out of the post office turn on them,

Re: Vennells
It’s not about capitalism: it’s about reliance on systems and a general trend towards assuming that people in positions of authority are likely to be competent and knowledgeable.

She knew the Horizon system was flawed but continued to prosecute these poor innocent people and now she says she didn’t really know what was going on.
She surely will be prosecuted herself eventually.

Yep, for a country that likes to portray itself as open and above board we are a disgrace, how about the blood scandal, how many police officers were convicted about Hillsborough how many Politicians were brought to justice over Covid (partygate) the list goes on I’m afraidRedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2024 8:25 am Four people committed suicide over this while a some others went to jail . Re: Vennells
It’s about making money at all costs and if ruining peoples lives along the way aides that then it’s part and parcel
Re: Vennells
Kind of, but not quite. It’s not about individual people being happy with ruining lives. It’s about a system that has no humanity, and individual people within it having no interest or motivation in doing anything outside the system.

Re: Vennells
It's fair that capitalism gets its share of the blame in this instance. Keef is right about the behaviour and conduct of the humans in control, but the overriding objective they were aiming for was to prep the Post Office for full and final privatisation.

And to personally benefit from overblown bonuses and other incentive schemes.
CEB is wrong about not seeing the relevance of the drivers of capitalism as being a main reason for greedy, lying behaviour in this case.

I think we can all agree that Vennells, and the rest of the executives involved in this, should rot in jail.

It is disturbing the number of such situations we are able to recollect without too much effort - but I'm glad that we at least live in a country where wrongs can be publicly identified and brought to task. Out of the 200+ countries on this planet there are very few where this can occur.Monkey Boy wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2024 8:44 amYep, for a country that likes to portray itself as open and above board we are a disgrace, how about the blood scandal, how many police officers were convicted about Hillsborough how many Politicians were brought to justice over Covid (partygate) the list goes on I’m afraidRedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Thu May 23, 2024 8:25 am Four people committed suicide over this while a some others went to jail .
