Yes the money is nice but Vigs may well come to regret the prime years of his footballing life sitting in the stands. Anyone who loves football wants to play as much as humanely possible, I know I did. Once retired the biggest regret is you didn’t play just one more game.

Paul Smyths move made much more sense, although I’m not surprised he has struggled in the Championship.

He hasn't really struggled, in spite of that VIth former's article. He's played 25 league games for them and the fans there seem to like him. It's a better season than the one he had with us in 2021/22, anyway.

Admittedly less minutes, but scored 5 goals 2021/22, compared to just 3 last season.

but personally I think he would become a better keeper playing competitive League 1 football in front of thousands, rather than playing for Burnley B team in an empty stadium.

Disagree. Training day in day out with Muric and Trafford in a Championship/Premiership environment and the odd closed door game against other Prem B teams will easily make you a better keeper than training with Howlers and Byrne and playing L1 football.

I don't think this is true, playing first team football at the highest level you can is the most important development choice you can make. That's why the entire loan system exists.

But I don't blame the guy for taking the cash and getting to experience something new. It's a short career and he can now say he's been part of a premier league squad.

Last season even Joe Piggott got 4 goals in 2044 minutes, compared to Paul Smyth 3 goals in 2242 minutes.

As a kid trying to break into proper, mens football - absolutely.

As a seasoned pro, who's probably been doing the same things day in day out for years, performing at a similar standard, it's a one time opportunity to learn new things and make a step change.

The handful of times I've seen him on the tv it looks like he's been playing much, much deeper than with us.

Not sure the number of goals is the best way to judge him.
