League 2 ups and downs
Seeing the Wrexham result yesterday v FGR; Stockport also claimed promotion; the Mansfield win at MK Dons; Colchester moving out the bottom two leaving FGR and Sutton looking very likely for the drop; Chesterfield are heading into the EFL, quite likely it will be with an ex EFL team too - it all made me feel it’s the changing of the guard from new back to old.
Personally I am loving seeing some traditional EFL clubs who had fallen on hard times return and find success – we’ve been there ourselves of course – am particularly pleased for the fans of those clubs. I believe in a meritocracy in football and I’ve nothing against the new boys, but to quote a line from The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, it feels like in many ways it’s ‘normality restored’.

Supporters of Rochdale, Oldham, Scunthorpe and Hartlepool might have something to say about that…

League One is already looking stronger for next season . I hope we get our Summer recruitment right or we could struggle next season .

It’s always strong.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 17, 2024 11:19 am League One is already looking stronger for next season . I hope we get our Summer recruitment right or we could struggle next season .
Why’s it stronger out of interest? We’ve lost Portsmouth and one of (or both) of Derby and Bolton

Re: League 2 ups and downs
Don't think it's about the teams swapping between L1 and the Champ, I'd say it's to do with the teams who come up. Stockport and Wrexham (and to an extent, Mansfield) are well backed, on a roll and more likely to be aiming for a solid playoff push than the likes of Stevenage (aware they're still not out of it but they've really over performed), Northampton and ourselves were this season. Our recruitment needs to be spot on to mix it with a potentially bigger pool of candidates for the top 6.Rich Tea Wellin wrote: ↑Wed Apr 17, 2024 11:27 amIt’s always strong.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 17, 2024 11:19 am League One is already looking stronger for next season . Re: League 2 ups and downs
Actually , you make a good point . I was thinking more about the recourses and size of crowds both Wrexham and Stockport get. .But of course the clubs you've mentioned are the same if not bigger . Anyway, I still hope we can get the players Richie wants over the Summer . I'd love us to sign El-Miz again either on loan or permanently .Rich Tea Wellin wrote: ↑Wed Apr 17, 2024 11:27 amIt’s always strong.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 17, 2024 11:19 am League One is already looking stronger for next season . Re: League 2 ups and downs
Fair to say that we can expect the teams coming up to be better resourced than this year's lot. Stockport and Wrexham will spend loads, Mansfield appear to be a very decent outfit.
It's almost impossible to tell out of those potentially coming down, who'll be in decent shape. Rotherham have been awful but seem to endlessly yo yo. Wednesday appear to be in disarray but new manager has done wonders given resources and they are a big club. Birmingham have a lot of money beyond them but have been mismanaged. Huddersfield would be the pick of them if you were thinking teams who'd come down without resources behind them and we could half compete with.
You assume Charlton will be much better next year, Wigan will be stronger and Bolton will likely improve further. So it'll likely be a tougher division next year.
Wellens has kept saying this is a very poor league 1 and a promotion tilt was there to be had if things came together. Obviously injuries and January recruitment didn't allow for it in the end, as well as that dismal run in November and December.

Re: League 2 ups and downs
Thinking on it more . Teams like Portsmouth and Derby will be replaced by relegated championship clubs . Team going down to League Two have less resources than Wrexham and Stockport so yes, league One will be stronger next seasonRedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Wed Apr 17, 2024 12:25 pmYes OK , they are bigger . Re: League 2 ups and downs
Absolutely . I’d expect him to raid Stevenage to bring some of his players with him. He’ll also have a bigger budget to do it as well
