Is it a problem when players like O'Neil and El Mizouni are signed?
Not forgetting Galbraith.
There’s lots of examples. Our recruitment success rate has been very good since Richie joined.
The problem is when we can’t get our target then Lingy panic signs any old sh*t before transfer windows close.
The processes have changed a few times since Ling re-joined, depending on who else is around, but it's pretty clear that Wellens is taking more responsibility for this aspect, and even more so since #strikergate in January. No more under Martin Ling, now it's Martin underLing

How is it clear RW is taking more responsibility since January when we haven't signed anyone other than the out of contract Simpson?
After that very public challenge from Wellens, Travis said the processes would change, and who fronted up the Simpson signing?

A little unfair on ML in my opinion. It is and has always been a collaberative approach by ML and RW and the scouts. Its been well documented that RW sets the agenda with the scouting group and they draw up lists and ideally seek their first or second choice. The problem is that when we get down to 5th and 6th choice its probably late in the day and we are scraping the barrel. Ling does not do that alone. The knack is to avoid scraping the barrel - but doing business early is not always an option. The player, or his agent, or sometimes us prevent it. If you remember we had to change our priorities a bit in January because of injuries to anyone that went near the CB position. I reckon our eye went off the ball a bit and with that went Charlie Kelman. Subject to who is offered contracts and elect to stay, I expect us to move fairly quickly to get Dan Agyei some assistance up front for next season.

Agreed. No way would Richie allow this to happen to him again.

Simpson is quite obviously a Wellens signing as evidenced by the fact that he speaks highly of him and has given him a spot in the starting line up as soon as he could.
So the evidence that RW is taking more responsibility is that he has had a say in 100% of signings since Jan.
In Nigel’s diplomatic post strikergate interview, he said Richie had made his concerns known and some of his suggested improvements were being implemented.
You’d imagine the main one was to get Lingy away from recruiting players.

That one definitely has an air of doing things differently and getting prepared early for what sounds like Happe's summer departure. Promising if it means RW is getting things done his way.

It is but let’s hope he limits himself to signing just 1 racist per season.
