That's true. With a DOF and scouts a guy with zero experience is the best we can come up with. OK, he may be great, I fecking hope so, but how the hell can anyone tell when he has never been tested. Big gamble. Fingers crossed stuff. Hope it works because we need a strong tackling ball winner in CM who can introduce that little bit of creativity we lack. who will he replace? Plenty of examples of small tough tacking midfielders - Phil Holder of Spurs 5ft 4ins but had an excellent career. Also one of the hardest players I’ve ever seen - Bobby Kellard aka “ the pocket battleship” a real enforcer.Forty-Niner wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2019 7:10 pm At 5'3 he will be the shortest player in the EFL . Tedious. I shot down in flames you predictions point so you dig up this. How's this for a prediction. After a few weeks of FB I highlighted the type of person FB was and gave him 3 years before he went, if we had no success. 3 years is what we got. And my support as you put it was generally limited to acknowledging the amount of money he was investing. Which he did.Red_Army wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2019 7:22 pmI couldn't care less about you guessing the score each week. Read up about Bobby Collins, cannot recall him playing but although only 5'3'' from all accounts, Revie rated Collins as his best ever signing, skillful but as hard as nails and had a real winning attitude. Even Jackie Charlton kept well out of his way in their training matches.
Bobby Collins: Footballer whose fearsome passion for the game helped Don Revie transform the fortunes of Leeds United.

Well according to COYO's , George Marsh was given another contract by Spurs only eight weeks ago so I've no doubt he's a good player. I suppose he's come to us to get tested and to get some first team experience . We're struggling for goals at the moment so please God George can hit the ground running. My guess is he'll come on Tuesday night as a second half substitute for Clay.

Re: It’s George marsh
Booby Kellard, small but good and hard midfielder. I read the following on a ''Pompey Pocket Rocket Eleven'' website about small players who did the business for them. http://www.pompeyelevens.com/elevens/po ... ket-elevenredintheface wrote: ↑Mon Aug 19, 2019 7:28 pmPlenty of examples of small tough tacking midfielders - Phil Holder of Spurs 5ft 4ins but had an excellent career. '' Bobby Kellard..... As previously reported on this site, hard nut Kellard (pictured above) possessed a pair of thighs that resembled a couple of hairy Giant Redwoods. The fulsomeness of his femurs was exacerbated by his diminutive 5' 5" stature, which was more akin to a bonsai.''
Good cartoon of Kellard shown !! Also our own Terry Brisley gets a mention !
Terry Brisley...... Another 5’ 6”er, Brisley was an energetic midfielder with the happy knack of getting to the back stick at the right time to notch a goal. It was a trick ‘Far Post’ performed 45 times in 206 appearances in Pompey blue. Not bad for a little ‘un.

Re: It’s George marsh
I don’t believe he is 5ft3. How could someone that hight play centr half. You may as well put him in goal.
Anyway spurs have an excellent youth set up and they would not give him a contract unless he was decent.
I am on board with this, and just hope we actually get to see him play, not just sitting on the bench.

Re: It’s George marsh
It’s a great opportunity for the lad and I wish him well but he he gets game time rather than being stuck on the bench.
I find it hard to believe that he could play at CB if he’s just 5’3”, but whatever, if Spurs have given him Two extra years then he must be a decent prospect.
It’s also the sort of signing that we wouldn’t have got as a NL team so another bonus for getting back into the league.

Re: It’s George marsh
Firstly if Tottenham have just given him a new professional contract you can be sure he is a decent footballer with many good atributes. The times i have seen George playing for Spurs he has played mainly on the right hand side of midfield/defence. I expect him to make his debut tomorrow. Where will he play? Team will use same formation with Marsh in for Sam Ling. Lastly give the lad a chance, how would you all feel if you started a new job and there was negativety towards you before you walk through the door. Good luck George.

Re: It’s George marsh
How tall is Ross? Cos George is at least an inch smaller. Not particularly bothered about his size look at Kantè at Chelsea. He is the type of player we need if it means our more attacking players can now get up the pitch and effect the game more
Good luck George. I’d play him instead of Clay and go 442

So then Wright & Clay isnt enough experience. As to being only 5'3'' tall, well there have been quite a few great players who have been tough ball winning midfield players despite being on the small side. For a start, here are three international who played for the tough tackling Leeds team of the 1960s, Bobby Collins 5'3'' ( Scotland ) Billy Bremner 5'5'' ( Scotland ) and Johnny Giles 5'7'' ( Republic of Ireland ) All three were great midfield players for Club and Country.
Another tough little chap who was a ''HANDFUL'' on the pitch ( especially in the penalty box ! ) was.........Diego Maradona !!
