News from the war this MB forgot. It appears Ukrainia would like the West to provide long range missiles to destroy drone factories in not only Russia but in Iran and Syria too. Crivvens!!
Seems reasonable enough.
You just wait until China find out.
Something tells me that China is about to have enough of its own problems to worry about.

For Putin it's not just about the regions of Ukraine that he is currently claiming as Russian territory. Interestingly, they all cut off (strangling) Ukraine's sea and therefore major trading routes access.
But his real intentions are about a deeper and longer term process
/
namely wiping out Ukraine's existence and identity
/
https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/ ... n-children

His 'mission' is not yet accomplished, so he has determined that he will be 'elected' again till 2030.
And Trump thinks they are 'mates' (and Farage loves Trump).

God help us!

It didn't take Putin long to get rid of the leader of the Wagner Group after he'd gone up against the tyrant.

Makes sod all difference to anything sadly.

Pretty terrifying backdrop to this though. Russia now into full on war economy mode and Europe belatedly realising it's on its own if/when Trump gets elected. Those warnings about Russia not finishing with Ukraine start to look a lot more real once America checks out of NATO.

The much-fabled western military-industrial complex has so far failed to come up with the volume of goods required in war time. And US exports of LNG was never going to compensate Germany for the loss of Russian pipeline gas, which is now deindustrialising at an alarming rate. Europe's future is looking increasingly bleak.

Yes.

If Ukraine does fall and if Russia is to eventually extend its reach beyond that border, then it would most likely be to form a land bridge between Belarus and Kaliningrad - the so-called Suwalki gap. And that means invading one of two possible countries - Poland or Lithuania.

Poland is getting itself armed to the teeth, so any Russian incursion will be met with a painful counterpunch. And, would almost certainly result in a NATO response. I also think think that if Poland thinks that is even a remote possibility, it it has the political and economic muscle to quickly acquire a nuke.

Lithuania, while a member of NATO, could be slightly different. It is certainly less of an economic and military opponent than Poland. It is more feasible that Putin would continue to try and sow division throughout Europe and to further undermine NATO collectiveness. And then, possibly, launch a ridiculously small incursion and occupy a tiny bit of Lithuanian forest on the border.

Technically, this would be an invasion, and Lithuania would want a response. But would NATO vote to invoke Article 5 and launch an all-out war on Russia, with all the risk that entails, just for a few square meters of useless forest? Possibly, but possibly not.

If it looked like NATO was going to respond, then Russia could quickly withdraw and de-escalate the situation. If NATO didn't respond, then that would pretty much spell its end, and the rest of the world would react accordingly. So my money is on Lithuania.

Definitely this. In the current climate - and perhaps even more so later this year/early 2025 if Trump wins - I can easily see Russia calculating that NATO won't go all in if part, or all, of Lithuania was snatched. Poland would probably be a different kettle of fish.

I wonder if Farage is a Russian agent? Brexit has been quickly followed by Moscow flexing it's muscles.

That would be an extremely risky move by Russia. In my opinion the risk wouldn’t be worth it.
