Car insurers robbing the nation
Just woke up to a lovely email from LV telling me that due to ther people making claims on their car insurance, cost of living and severe weather causing people to lose their vehicles, my car insurance is going up from £460 to £700!!
I have not made any claims, nor had my car washed away ina freak flash flood, yet the insurance company are worries that their huge profits may did slightly so have increased my insurance by 40%!!!!
I drive a xc60 2 litre it’s not a flash Range Rover or kept on the streets at night, however none of this matters and for 15 years no claims and a clean licence this is my renewal price.
Checked comparison websites and all the same.
The issue here is many people will have the same issue. Some may even say this is too high and drive without insurance. While I don’t agree with this I can see this type of thinking increasing dramatically.
The government or some governing body must step in and control these spiralling unjust increases.

Xc60 looks pretty flash
But regardless, thefts and repair prices are up, because of the latter cars are written off with minor damage. People making a claim are chased to claim for injuries. Shop around.

Isn’t basically everything in this country absurdly expensive now?
Groceries, train travel, eating out, gas, electric, houses, rent. I don’t see why insurance wouldn’t be on that list.

I did shop around and some were asking over £1k I have been driving over 30 years, I understand price increases but 40%?Long slender neck wrote: ↑Sun Mar 03, 2024 9:55 am Xc60 looks pretty flash

Uninsured drivers on the road will increase, there is no doubt. What have they got to lose? They can’t drive the car legally so may as well risk it. If them lose the car, they were going to lose it anyway.

Re: Car insurers robbing the nation
My car insurance did exactly the same in January &, surprise, surprise; when I checked on Compare the Meercat, Go Compare etc etc, my existing premium was the cheapest. I understand that a big factor are these "secure " keyless fob things, which are now easy for the rogues to clone.

What f*cking admin?? I don’t get a disc anymore all I get is a generated email confirming payment.

This country is rip off capital of the world. We pay more for almost anything, compared to the rest of Europe.
Just compare the price we pay for energy, and compare it to what the French or the Italians etc pay. Look at the cost of train tickets here, then compare that to Germany or The Netherlands etc
My car insurance is renewable in 2½ months, and im dreading it

Been driving for over 50 years, insured with SAGA - got my renewal details 3 weeks ago - premium was up by £150.00. Whether it's about the post code or my age etc - don't know but, as I do each year with whoever I ring them up and discover they're always more than willing to drop the price. I got loads of blurb about why prices are so high and a pushy guy wanting me to sign up to a fixed amount for 3 years - I shudder to think how much the premium would have gone up by 3 years time.

House insurance is a racket too.
Mine was £267 last year and the good people at Axa saw fit to increase to £470 for renewal in 2024.
Moved to another company and got it for £285.

Re: Car insurers robbing the nation
I work for a well known insurer(s) and the amount of rate we implement is mental. A lot of it is explainable, although unpalatable. Brexit has mean lots of parts are harder to get/more expensive.
Inflation has made parts and labor go up as well as the market rate for second hand cars going mental meaning claims payouts are insane.
Obviously, the industry is bloated and full of fat cats so it’s not all due to that. I’m certainly not seeing any of it in my pay rise.

This. FTC junior takes his test soon. £2,200 is the cheapest price I can get to insure him on a 15 year old Toyota aygo which is apparently the cheapest lowest group car to insure. Unless I get him a wheelbarrow instead.

Unbelievably, that's actually not a bad price. I've had to do it as he needs to drive for college/work, but putting him on my insurance has seen my total premium hit just over £3,200. And I have zero offences and full no claims.

Mental isn’t it. To add him to my policy for a 2006 Mini Cooper sent it to nearly 5k. Almost 5 times what the car is worth.Dunners wrote: ↑Sun Mar 03, 2024 5:42 pmUnbelievably, that's actually not a bad price.
