Wellens avoids touchline ban.

Post by Top of the JES »

In the least surprising news of the day Richie Wellens has been charged for Misconduct after his sending off at Oxford. 6 match touchline ban and a hefty fine on the way me thinks unless he appeals. if he does appeal he won't win it.

EFL statement reads:-

Richie Wellens has been charged following Leyton Orient’s EFL League One game against Oxford United on Saturday, 24 February.

It’s alleged that the manager acted in an improper manner around the 85th minute, which led to his dismissal.

Richie Wellens has until Monday, 4 March, to provide a response.

Depends on the exact details of the charge.

But I'd say you have naff all chance of winning any appeal cos the EFL think the sun shines out of every officials backside.

I'd say the ref acted in an improper manner by being so biased for Oxford....

Last ban was 3 Games - My opinion knowing the FA is it will be 6 games and a hefty fine. It's his second ban in three months they won't go easy on him if found guilty.

He should definitely appeal, the ref could have booked him, unfortunately Ritchie has got a reputation now but he has been pretty unlucky for relatively minor indiscretions. And whilst his arguments might have some validity, they won't wash with the powers at be who don't like a little upstart big mouth, 4 match touchline ban, £3000 fine, beans on toast for 2 months.

The ref couldn’t book him, it’s a red card offence.

As Manager of a young team he should lead by example as sending offs and bookings have repercussions, especially this close to a possible playoff position. I doubt if the owners will be too pleased with his repeated bad behaviour. He is building up a bad reputation which will only mean officials will give him extra attention (even subtly winding him up) as he has a lot of previous now and will be prejudged.

There is nothing positive in his nonsense.

Sticking the proverbial two fingers up at the FA and PGMOL is a positive, they deserve all the criticism they get

Think he needs change his attitude slightly, it doesn't reflect well sometimes on himself, the club, players and kids, I'm all for the honesty but some of it is a bit far

Probably get in trouble for those comments.

Don’t blame him though. Some of the decisions week in week out are baffling. When Edwards got fouled twice and he gave a free kick to them for handball.

I'm glad he's speaking out about it. The more the suits have tried to enforce "respect" for officials the worse their performances have become as managers are being fined for criticising them.

The added time is baffling, we get 7 mins added and 9 played last week then only 5 this week for longer stoppages.

I back Richie all the way on this, the refereeing standards just aren't good enough

The current clampdown by the FA is as a result of increasing bad behaviour creeping into the game. They are trying to stop this creep and this season have been applying the rules more rigorously. Many types of behaviour like surrounding referees and technical area offences have declined already. Dissent cautions have increased as part of this clampdown but the FA expect this to decline one player/coach behaviour improves.

We have seen a marked increase in time added on for time-wasting and all this surrounding the referee and kicking the ball away at free kicks is disappearing.

Wellens offences are covered by the Laws, law 12, and he is clearly in breach of them. He knows it too and is not contesting the latest one because now he knows the rules he realises he was wrong. No matter how he chooses to describe it.

Thinking the rules are crap is fine, but they are the rules and need to be adhered to. No referees = no football. Think about it!

All of the above stuff they're clamping down on... who bloody cares apart from the suits?

Technical area... who cares, it's great to see managers running up the line with passion

Dissent... get the decisions right then, we're seeing basic errors increasing like not giving fouls on a keeper clearing a ball, and these referees want respect?

What we have is too much meddling in the rougher edges of the game by those who have never played it. Fans don't want the sport sanitised, neither do players, managers or pundits.

In short, reverse all the recent changes, get back to simple definitions of basics like handball, added time and keep it consistent. The rest would follow but this authoritarian, punitive method is just driving an increasing wedge between those "running" the game and those watching and playing it.

As Richie says in his interview, they drain him and I get the same feeling every time VA-farce crops up in MOTD and the same watching inept officials at our level.
