The stupidest part about this post is that if you ignore the whole downplaying serious racial abuse by equating it to calling someone a “silly sausage” part, the core message of of “I’ve seen people do things like this before and nothing happened to them” doesn’t prove the point you think it does.DrWindy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 9:22 am In all my years I have heard people be called a fat silly sausage, a thin silly sausage, a tall silly sausage, a short silly sausage, a smelly silly sausage, a stupid silly sausage, a daft silly sausage, an ugly silly sausage, a lucky silly sausage, a black silly sausage, a white silly sausage, an asian silly sausage, a useless silly sausage, a dirty silly sausage, a crafty silly sausage, to name just a few.
I don’t recall any of those people being unable to earn a living for six months.
I don’t condone it in anyway but bloody hell. Let’s give the lad a second chance. Welcome to The O’s Jack!

No probably not but I don’t think the two situations can be compared. Adam Johnson abused a minor and went to jail. I don’t think they’re comparable and nor thankfully does the law. I am surprised you compare the two.BiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 10:08 amAdam Johnson is a free agent, want him signed as well?DrWindy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 9:22 am In all my years I have heard people be called a fat silly sausage, a thin silly sausage, a tall silly sausage, a short silly sausage, a smelly silly sausage, a stupid silly sausage, a daft silly sausage, an ugly silly sausage, a lucky silly sausage, a black silly sausage, a white silly sausage, an asian silly sausage, a useless silly sausage, a dirty silly sausage, a crafty silly sausage, to name just a few.

He’s served his time and deserves a second chance, judging by your logic. What about Marcos Alonso? He can do a job too. We’ll have Ched Evans too. f*** it, we’ll get Luke McCormick in as a goalkeeper coach too.DrWindy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 10:11 amNo probably not but I don’t think the two situations can be compared. That’s the crux of it for me. The downplaying of racist by a lot of fans, like he’s called someone a stupid pr1ck down the pub.The Reverend wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 10:11 amThe stupidest part about this post is that if you ignore the whole downplaying serious racial abuse by equating it to calling someone a “silly sausage” part, the core message of of “I’ve seen people do things like this before and nothing happened to them” doesn’t prove the point you think it does.DrWindy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 9:22 am In all my years I have heard people be called a fat silly sausage, a thin silly sausage, a tall silly sausage, a short silly sausage, a smelly silly sausage, a stupid silly sausage, a daft silly sausage, an ugly silly sausage, a lucky silly sausage, a black silly sausage, a white silly sausage, an asian silly sausage, a useless silly sausage, a dirty silly sausage, a crafty silly sausage, to name just a few.

Christ, you believe someone having sex with a minor is comparable to someone insulting someone verbally. Really? I’m just glad you’re not in the judiciary. That is utterly ridiculous.

I’ve made mistakes in life. I haven’t, however, racially abused a young colleague in front of their peers.DrWindy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 10:15 amI am pleased you have never made a mistake in life before. The Reverend wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 10:11 amThe stupidest part about this post is that if you ignore the whole downplaying serious racial abuse by equating it to calling someone a “silly sausage” part, the core message of of “I’ve seen people do things like this before and nothing happened to them” doesn’t prove the point you think it does.DrWindy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 9:22 am In all my years I have heard people be called a fat silly sausage, a thin silly sausage, a tall silly sausage, a short silly sausage, a smelly silly sausage, a stupid silly sausage, a daft silly sausage, an ugly silly sausage, a lucky silly sausage, a black silly sausage, a white silly sausage, an asian silly sausage, a useless silly sausage, a dirty silly sausage, a crafty silly sausage, to name just a few.

I would absolutely have an issue with it. Stopping the guy from ever working again I would suggest is a step too far when he is clearly remorseful. If he was my son I would want him to be given a second chance. The Reverend wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 10:48 amBut, presumably, you wouldn’t have an issue with someone who did?DrWindy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 10:47 amNo I haven’t.The Reverend wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 10:45 am

Re: New signing - Jack Simpson
That’s actually the relevant point that makes me think twice about his contrition. I literally couldn’t imagine a situation, or age, or state of inebriation where I’d even consider saying that word to someone. It’s a type of person where that crosses their mind. The Reverend wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 10:45 amI’ve made mistakes in life. Within about 3 posts you’ve gone from “what’s so bad about calling somebody a silly sausage?” to “I would absolutely have an issue with it”DrWindy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 10:51 amI would absolutely have an issue with it. You’ve also gone from “he wasn’t able to work for 6 months, that’s too far” back up to “he would have never been able to work again”
Make your mind up.

There seems a to be an ongoing theme here where certain boarders try to quote people saying things they have never said. Just because you write something with “, doesn’t mean it’s been said. Very dishonest and insincere. The Reverend wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 10:56 amWithin about 3 posts you’ve gone from “what’s so bad about calling somebody a silly sausage?” to “I would absolutely have an issue with it”DrWindy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 10:51 amI would absolutely have an issue with it. It’s not as bad as the theme of people saying something, then denying they said it about 5 minutes later.DrWindy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 11:00 amThere seems a to be an ongoing theme here where certain boarders try to quote people saying things they have never said. Make your mind up.
You started the whole “calling somebody a racist name is not worse than calling them a silly sausage” defence and now you’re trying to back down when called out on it.
It’s quite simple, tell us what you really think:
1. Calling a young colleague a “dirty [racist slur]” in front of their peers is no different to calling them a “silly sausage”
2. Calling a young colleague a “dirty [racist slur]” in front of their peers is a serious offence that you would “absolutely have an issue with”
Re: New signing - Jack Simpson
You do get that he never used the word “silly sausage” and in fact used the word “****” (fool), right?

Again, read it back. As advised the messageboard filtered what I said.
What occurs to me through this conversation is who I would prefer to play for my football club. A guy who made a racist comment and was sacked for it, or a guy who continually tells lies and misquotes people.
Welcome to Orient, Jack.

He’s being painted as some youngster wh made a mistake a long time ago.
He is 27 and this happened 6 months ago. This isn’t a ‘regrettable error of judgement’.

So the people who never want to see him play football, do they never want to see him work again and then in real terms end up homeless? I think most criminals should be punished roughly but he has said a few words, racist words but words.

reading these eight pages some of the comments are so depressing and confirms
why this board is my only occasional foray into social media. As a society we generally used to believe in the simple concept of a second chance, some way back, a bit of redemption but with the advent of cancel culture that seems to have disappeared . Sadly we have a fair few of these self righteous keyboard warriors on here, you all know the ones, never slipped up never made a mistake, always so ready to judge .Let he who is without sin etc.
Give the man a chance.
