Wouldn't they?Monkey Boy wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2024 11:04 am I’m going to sit on the fence with this one as there are many sides to the discussion however what I would say is the NT and RW seem to be very up front and forthright people and they wouldn’t of taken the decision lightly imo.
Our Board and Management team don't strike me as having had much personal experience with racism in their lives.

I still don’t get the he looks genuinely remorseful bit. Is it possible to sign someone who did what he did and they don’t come across as remorseful? It doesn’t take Lawrence Olivier to look at the floor, fake a tear, mumble a bit and say sorry.

The strange take bit is them then changing their mind when finding out he's got to serve a 6 match ban before being eligible to play.

Take one where he was bouncing around the stadium like the Italian kids in their pants shouting "I'm back, baby!" sadly ended up on the cutting room floor. "Jack, I think we need *less* energy, this time. Can you do 'sad and contrite'? Great, ACTION"

Re: New signing - Jack Simpson
You may be correct but this move seems to have divided opinion, like I said if the last window would have been sorted out properly this situation wouldn’t have happened? However you’re asking me about people I do not know personally but nowadays clubs are full of different cultures. Normally I would say top business people at the high end don’t normally mix with shall we say less well off people (only imo) but football is a little different (again imo) NT and Wellens would have thought long and hard about this I’m sure. They both mix with people from all sorts of backgrounds so I personally feel they do know about racism on a professional basis, privately I don’t honestly knowHoover Attack wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2024 11:24 amWouldn't they?Monkey Boy wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2024 11:04 am I’m going to sit on the fence with this one as there are many sides to the discussion however what I would say is the NT and RW seem to be very up front and forthright people and they wouldn’t of taken the decision lightly imo.

How many on here have personal experience of racism? And yet we still have an opinion

Not one who prides itself on “zero tolerance” and are at the heart of of a large asian community.

Surprised Getafe didn’t sign him.Proposition Joe wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2024 9:59 amFair.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2024 9:50 am Bit we also seem to be combing the two issues - should we sign a player charged with racism and is he any good - into one discussion. They're two distinct points which have no correlation to each other.
Aside from the arguing, I think it's actually a really interesting debate and is making me question where I lie on the issue. I'd imagine that a lot of people decrying this move and saying it's unacceptable that we'd sign a guy who's aimed a racial slur at a player - appreciate it's not a criminal offence but he's not been found guilty by the FA based on 'probability', as sometimes happens, but other teammates appear to have corroborated what happened - would also be among those who, in different circumstances, champion the right of someone to be rehabilitated and not ruled out of securing a job (subject to caveats such as nonces not going back to the classroom etc) when they come out of prison. Feels like you can't have it both ways and people need to think about whether they want to impose conditions on *where* someone rehabilitates. Does he have to go to a town with a smaller Asian population? Does he have to go to non-League (where some people seem to assume the same sensibilities and debates don't apply simply because there's fewer people watching)?
I agree that some of NT and RW's chat about "giving him a second chance" is hamming things up and a bit distasteful, we're not doing this out of the goodness of our hearts, we're not a charity and this is a business/football decision and it's lacking credibility to suggest otherwise. But if we agree that people shouldn't always be written off for one incident, then maybe we shouldn't object to him signing. Its certainly a thorny issue.

I don’t like to discuss religion or politics on here as I will leave that up to others, but what I would say as a older man is that whilst growing up I feel we take on board some of our parents/ grandparent's beliefs perhaps that are handed down from say the Second World War onwards. The Germans for instance, why do we not like them? Because of the war? There a different generation now, we have to let things go and it’s the same with race imo. We also have to have tolerance even with the people that have made mistakes in life,we all do. The club is in a strong position at the moment let’s not implode by arguing and if it pans out that this guy is a wrongun then that’s the time to voice our opinions. Obviously some may disagree

Your very argumentative CEB and you try to make some on here something or someone that there not. You can read what you like into what I have said and be as sarcastic as you like that seems to be your way? All I’m basically saying is leave it up to the club and management and if you or anybody body else doesn’t agree with there opinion then vote with your feet or money and don’t go. That is everyone’s choice at the end of the day.CEB wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2024 1:23 pmMonkey Boy wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2024 1:11 pm I don’t like to discuss religion or politics on here as I will leave that up to others, but what I would say as a older man is that whilst growing up I feel we take on board some of our parents/ grandparent's beliefs perhaps that are handed down from say the Second World War onwards. Every Cardiff fan who's commented - and a friend away from the social media noise - has said he's garbage. We shall see.

They are just thick idiots that hate the English. They can hardly be moralistic. Grubby Cardiff tried to get out of paying the transfer fee to Nantes for Sala who died in the plane crash.Proposition Joe wrote: ↑Fri Mar 01, 2024 9:39 am Yeah, I know social media is an often unreliable barometer but Cardiff fans seem to a man to a) absolutely hate him and b) think he's sh*t. Not seen a single conciliatory message wishing him well or whatever. Will certainly be interesting to see him in action, assuming that happens.
