Indienesia

Post by Dunners »

I think I've come across one of the more bizarre youth musical movements. Apparently, the kids of Jakarta are massively into late 80s / early 90s UK indie, with regular club nights and tribute bands.

Apparently they're not into Blur, because they think they're sh*t.

That looks about twenty times more fun than any indie night I’ve ever been too

Ooooff.

I always held that the moment I knew the manics were doomed as a big band was when Newcastle fans didn’t adopt Tsunami as a terrace chant

Time has changed my opinion on Blur. Used to think they were sh*t - looking back I've come to the conclusion they're were utter sh*t. Every time I hear Parklife I have an almost uncontrollable urge to do harm to Damon Albarn.

Parklife is sh*t. The weird thing about blur is that they were essentially two bands - one a quite awkward and interesting guitar band with an ear for a melody, the other a lowest common denominator exploiting that melodic knack to make ear worms they seemed to barely be able to tolerate themselves.

When they were a bit more sincere, they were a lot more interesting. I bet I could suggest five blur songs right now that you could listen to and be like “OK fair enough THAT is great”

I've given this some thought. 5 is a stretch. "To the end" is the only passable track I can think of. Charmless Man makes me itch.
