Re: Blue Cards
The rule that really needs looking at, and changing, is the ridiculous handball rule....that, and the rubbish standard of most refs in league 1 & 2

Re: Blue Cards
Someone else (CEB?) flagged this recently. I'd never really considered it previously and it would be a major change but makes sense that not all fouls in the penalty box should be a penalty.Mistadobalina wrote: ↑Fri Feb 09, 2024 10:44 am They need to seriously rework the handball rules so that it's only penalising egregious examples, and indirect free kicks for more minor fouls in the box, would be positive changes imo.
Refs already do this, not awarding a foul that they would elsewhere on the pitch.

Re: Blue Cards
Not sure but presumably it's to solve the problems of dissent and cynical play. Just a guess.

Re: Blue Cards
It’s coming. Already being trialled in parks football. A mate is a ref and says it works well for reducing dissent and poor conduct as the player is letting their team mates down and they all have to work a lot harder for 10 mins.
Our Theo is in trouble if it is implemented.

Re: Blue Cards
I've seen it at lowish levels and I'd say it doesn't work.
Players are coming back onto the pitch feeling aggrieved - they're spending the 10 minutes winding themselves up rather than reflecting on their behaviour. Can you imagine how this would play out with thousands of fans on your case?

Re: Blue Cards
Foul play is laid out within the laws of the game, I'm sure you're aware of that.
'Cynical' foul play obviously refers to tactical fouls. I'm sure you understand what that means too.

Re: Blue Cards
Virtually all fouls in the professional game are quite deliberate. Surely that suggests a level of cynicism in all fouls. Is a kick on the ankle less deserving of punishment than a little tug of a shirt? Yellow cards are already given for so called tactical fouls and if it is hoped that players will stop committing them for fear of being blue carded, then I suggest that they don't understand footballers' mentality. We will have players running off and on the field like yoyos if this comes to pass

Re: Blue Cards
Of course they are. They may not deliberately go in to a tackle with the intention of kicking someone on the shin, but by the careless and clumsy nature of the tackle, they know they ain't winning the ball

Re: Blue Cards
That's just not true.
Tell you what, I'll go on the Orient website later, pick the first full game that's available to view in full, then go through it foul by foul.

Re: Blue Cards
Must be an average of 15 to 25 fouls given most games. Some even more. Are most of them just genuine accidents? Don't think so, although I accept that they are not all necessarily malicious

Re: Blue Cards
Today's game highlights how stupid and pointless this hairbrained scheme would be; would've been watching 7 a side by the end

agree, they would have needed to build an extension on the sin bin for last 10mins of our game.

This is a really good point. In my sevens team’s league I’d say that a blue card more often results in a player coming back on the pitch swearing at the ref and wound up for a fight.

Re: Blue Cards
Football could take a leaf from Rugby Unions law book when it comes to dissent. In RU if a player shows dissent to the referee they will see the free kick marched forward 10 yards and it works well, very little dissent in RU.

Re: Blue Cards
It was 89% accidental fouls and just 14% deliberate. Case closed.
