RW: squad isn’t strong enough
https://www.leytonorient.com/news/2024/ ... on-albion/
Think RW is 100% right. Squad wafer thin due to injuries, suspension and the cock up that was the Jan transfer window.
Now we’re paying for that.
RW rightly called out Beckles and Cooper as not good enough in this performance, but both players know there’s no one else to take the shirt. Beckles always seems to have these appalling lapses of concentration, I don’t think he’s good enough if we want to progress.
Today was a bridge too far, when events caught up with us.
One bright spark was Moncur, just a shame he couldn’t pass at the end of his bursts through towards goal.
Play offs were always a long shot. Tbh think we’re better off not being in them.

Re: RW: squad isn’t strong enough
Beckles obviously caught out for their first but ridiculous to pin our inability to play out from the back on them 2.
If our rotations were happening, if people were making themselves available, the ball would have gone forwards. The reason it wasn’t is there wasn’t anyone to pass to. And I pin than on playing a boy up front who isn’t ready to play L1 football and not having Brown today.

Re: RW: squad isn’t strong enough
The brutal truth is we're not ready for the play offs anyway because we have too many injuries .PKM wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2024 6:41 pm https://www.leytonorient.com/news/2024/ ... on-albion/

Re: RW: squad isn’t strong enough
The last few weeks we have been incredible but we have a young squad and are carrying injuries. Today we met a fresher and physically stronger team and it was a step too far. I’m not too downhearted but one or two of our senior players need to up their game.

Re: RW: squad isn’t strong enough
Richie has been vindicated in his views of the January window, especially on letting Turns go and we're now down to bare bones at CB

Re: RW: squad isn’t strong enough
Richie clearly not happy with the Jan transfer window, going as far as having to be given a dressing down by Travis for public criticism.
Clearly he holds Ling responsible for transfer activity. During an interview back in Jan Wellens basically said transfer dealings are nothing to do with him, it’s the DoFs job.
Wonder if that has the potential to get toxic. Can’t see Richie sticking around at a club who don’t support him in the transfer market.

Most of us have known for some time we're too slow in the transfer market and must move more quickly in future .The Reverend wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2024 7:08 pm Richie clearly not happy with the Jan transfer window, going as far as having to be given a dressing down by Travis for public criticism.

Re: RW: squad isn’t strong enough
Richie’s criticisms - some of them old, some of them new - have been heard by the Board and changes have been made to our processes, apparently….

Re: RW: squad isn’t strong enough
I don't get the Turns thing, why would he want to be fourth choice CB and why would Brighton want him sitting on the bench, he is now playing every week and might get another promotion
For Wellens is a quality manager but sometimes lack a Plan B, the opposition changed how they were playing and Orient never adapted

Re: RW: squad isn’t strong enough
I don't think we could due to injuries and players carrying slight knocks like Tom James and Ruel Sotiriouessexfootball wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2024 9:04 pm I don't get the Turns thing, why would he want to be fourth choice CB and why would Brighton want him sitting on the bench, he is now playing every week and might get another promotion

Re: RW: squad isn’t strong enough
Why drag this up from a few weeks ago when both RW and NT have denied there are any issues. RW admitted taking his eye off the ball with the striker signing and that he was as responsible as anybody for it not getting it done. He's since said when it comes to recruitment he is as involved as anyone. The Reverend wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2024 7:08 pm Richie clearly not happy with the Jan transfer window, going as far as having to be given a dressing down by Travis for public criticism.

It won't get toxic much to the disappointment to some on this board who would love to stir up a bit of drama with Ling at the centre of it.

Re: RW: squad isn’t strong enough
I think even earlier in the season, sometimes Wellens lack it, he kept picking the right team but only after making 2/3 subs, he is a quality manager and not digging him out at all, as like the players, he is at this level for a reason both good and badRedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2024 10:05 pmI don't think we could due to injuries and players carrying slight knocks like Tom James and Ruel Sotiriouessexfootball wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2024 9:04 pm I don't get the Turns thing, why would he want to be fourth choice CB and why would Brighton want him sitting on the bench, he is now playing every week and might get another promotion

He’s ok when he has no pressure and all the time in the world on the ball. His decision making is poor and his positioning is poor.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2024 10:03 pmHe's a good player but can be too lackesdaiesBiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2024 7:31 pm I’ve been saying for a long time Beckles isn’t the player fans think he is. Re: RW: squad isn’t strong enough
That climbdown the next day was about as blatant use of PR damage limitation you'll see. Going from "I leave the transfers to Martin" pre-window to taking responsibility himself after voicing public criticism of the process is quite the swing.BiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Sun Feb 18, 2024 12:15 amWell, that makes it true then.Top of the JES wrote: ↑Sat Feb 17, 2024 10:41 pmWhy drag this up from a few weeks ago when both RW and NT have denied there are any issues. There were issues and mistakes made, else there would be no need to revise said process with Richie's ideas going forward. He's been proven right about what would happen so the board / transfer committee best listen to his feedback carefully and get summer right.

Re: RW: squad isn’t strong enough
He has put his hands up in the past, on occasion.
But this is different. He criticised our business whilst others were saying what a good job we’d done, before any of them had played.
