Blue Cards

Post by Top of the JES »

A new card being considered next season to counter dissent and cynical foul play. Referees can brandish a Blue card which will mean a 10 minute stay in a sin-bin, two yellows and/or two blues or a combination of will equate to a red, likely to be in use in the FA Cup next season and in all EFL games from 2025-26.

Will definitely have an affect on the O's unless they tidy up their act.

No thanks. Don’t like this idea at all. What’s wrong with a bit of dissent? Football can't be totally sanitised.

If I was a ref, I'd be sending 2 a game off. Ignore their competence, would you do that job for the grief the get. Also, all of the tactical fouls that stop break aways will now get a harsher form of punishment. I'm for it as something needs doing. If it don't work it will be scrapped but its not something that will ruin the game.

Why does football need an extra card, sin-bin for 10 mins those who get a yellow, I'm pretty sure that would stop a good deal of the misdemeanours.

And, I still fail to understand why refs are reluctant to give out yellows in the first half. We've all seen fouls committed in the first 30 mins, where the player does not get a card, usually just a talking to, yet the same/very similar foul in the last 30 mins gets a card. Look at the BBC match stats and there are invariably more cards in the second half, than the first.

Total rubbish idea, will ruin football, stick your sin bins and blue cards up your ar$e, it will so subjective and will just cause so much confusion, and we have enough confusion in football already with VAR.

Exactly, the current rules are fine if people actually enforced them.

Persistent offenses. Pretty common in sports, isn't it? Warning and then sanction.

Spot on. No need to complicate the situation - just get refs in football to enforce the rules akin to refs in Rugby i. e. take no sh-it off players (or managers).

It'll just be something else for people to moan about and pundits to pore over, with the usual accusations of bias and/or refereeing incompetence. Thinking how it works in other sports, the Wales - Fiji Rugby World Cup game last autumn saw Fiji get pinged and a player yellow carded/sin binned for a first offence while Wales had got away with several similar ones in the immediate run up. Football will be the same, with bigger sides getting the rub of the green.

Really no need to complicate things…only see further havoc and confusion ahead. Sort out VAR first, you imbeciles.

You've answered your own question there.

Agreed - this is absolutely a thing (and totally different to the totting up/persistent offending mentioned above). Everyone knows you can put one in early and have a good chance of getting away with it.

It's like a Yellow*.

Agreed with the general consensus though, it's unnecessary, just need refs to enforce existing laws properly. Can you imagine the timewasting that would go on as the 10 minute counter ticked down?

Someone else goes in goal for 10 mins, or you sub a GK on, then sub him off when the 10 mins are up.

More likely though, refs would be reluctant to blue card them, just like they don't have to leave the pitch after treatment.

Goal line technology objectively works well. I'd argue three substitutes being allowed also good. No passing back to the keeper as mentioned obviously makes sense.

In general cutting down on dangerous play a positive.

They need to seriously rework the handball rules so that it's only penalising egregious examples, and indirect free kicks for more minor fouls in the box, would be positive changes imo.

Nah, a keeper making one of the opposition run to the ball before picking it up was great entertainment.

always thought if you were going to bring in a sin bin it should be for yellow cards for five minutes.
