What is ill-judged about saying all genocides should be remembered on a genocide Memorial Day?

Ludicrous.

Starmer's action is just another piece in his endeavour to remove as many supporters of the democratic socialist politics which thrived under Corbyn's leadership.

The desperation from Starmer not to be seen as anti-Semitic, not for the right reasons but because it was a factor in Labour losing the last election, could tie them in knots. Already seeing questions being asked. And the false tying together of anti Israel and anti-semitism means that the worse Israel’s behaviour becomes, the harder it will be for Labour to continue the charade.

Call the genocide in Gaza a different name if you like but no, that doesn’t really help anyone, certainly not the tens of thousands brutally wiped out of existence.

Out of interest, when people refer to the genocides that took place in, say, in Rwanda or Srebrenica, why don't all the very good faith actors we see so much of today stand up shouting "HOW DARE YOU COMPARE THIS TO THE HOLOCAUST?!"

It's a bit strange to call it a 'war' when the vast number of Palestinians getting killed by the Israeli army are babies, children, ordinary citizens, old people. None of them are armed and none of them are safe, even while seeking life saving treatment in hospitals.

That's what happens when you fight a cowardly militia that uses people as human shields.

Probably down to the intent. I.e. one group attacking another with the intent of wiping it out. Israel have responded to an attack on them (in this instance). I don't agree with Israel's response on this, and I don't agree with their policies on illegal occupation. I also don't agree with palestines position on wanting to wipe Israel off the map. You can argue hamas is separate to them, but they have harboured and facilitated them. Unfortunately we're in a position where no one enforces international law, due to immense abuses and failures of it in the past (Iraq, etc). But the point is this is not a holocaust, Rwanda, Cambodia, etc were.

Well, that's just how the Israeli army and the political state they are acting for justify their mass killings.
Hopefully more nations will wake up to this fact and take a stand.
SA has made a start.

Im sure the death toll is high but I'd be careful believing any statistics from a health ministry run by terrorists.

Isn’t the point here not about whether or not it’s OK to mention genocides, not about whether this is or isn’t a genocide, but specifically about wanting to generalise the memorial day for the holocaust to no longer be specifically focused on the Jews who were murdered, as well as to bracket the actions of Israel alongside the holocaust on a day specifically about the holocaust?

That seems to me to be the fair reading of what the actual issue is at hand - not ranking genocides, nor deciding what does or doesn’t count as one, but attempting to dilute the meaning of this specific memorial day?

A comparison might be someone suggesting that we include remembering those who died of Ebola in World AIDS day; why would you not include them? Does Ebola not rank high enough in deaths? No, it’s just that the cultural context of AIDS matters as a specific thing
