I agree with Mikero, that the term Remoaner is an abusive term designed to belittle anyone who voted remain in the referendum. Its just as easy to type Remainer .
Had the remainers won the referendum, Im sure Leavers wouldnt just give up on their beliefs, yet somehow, Leavers expect Remainers to just give up on a lifes beleifs just because they won that referendum, and anyone who doesnt is a remoaner.
As has been said, by all means lets have discussions about it all, but keep the conversation classy, and dont use the term remoaner

A look through recent history shows what happens with right-wing regimes, remember we are not dealing with the cuddly old One-Nation Tory party here we are dealing with the "swivel-eyed loons", as someone in the party called them.

China is a right-wing regime. It is a self-selecting dictatorship that only espouses communism to keep the population under contol, it follows the traditions of centuries of warlordism.

No surprise there, comeon! O'h, so the many rem--ners in the public eye haven't belittled leavers by any chance, have they? 😊
Maybe it hurts because they haven't got an appropriate comeback. But one thing i do know: calling it "Abusive" and pretending to be so offended by it is laughable. Surely there are more important things in life not to get too downcast about...

Yes there are more important things but then when I question whether my grandchildren will have a country fit to live in I get called a remoaner.

Trust me CCH it is abusive & belittling . While were at it......:Leavers come over in a gloating triumphalist way.....God forbid political events occur which means we stay in the EU....youll never get down from your high and lofty place. this referendum has split this country in two, to the point people actually hate each other. A pal of mines girlfriend dumped him because the family are remainers, and her family are leavers ffs...thats how bad its getting.
Why do people want to destroy this country, to be a vassal state of the USA

I don't mind that term, because it allows me to use gammon, which is an absolutely perfect fit for the kind of person who uses the term snowflake and then whinges about anything thrown back their way.

It's not that simple, unfortunately. Exquisitely ironically, many labelled as "remoaners" also match the "gammon" criteria perfectly.

I’m worried there might be a shortage of avocados on Nov 1 if BoJo and his Iago Cummings stick to their word. That’s about it for me personally.

But I’d expect some port customs delays, some shortages, limited chaos and - rather importantly for some people - some essential medication might be hard to get hold of until things calm down (there’s already some of that at the mo on key items). And some will panic buy things to stock up, which will add to the misery.

Plus, of course, this thing will play on and on and on as the main news item as we then start negotiating trade deals and tariffs, the gits tendency try to dismantle even further our regulations and state infrastructures for their own selfish gains, many Celts up the agitation to leave England to stew - where we’ll still be on the back foot but carry on being delusional about how Great and Important and Special and Superior we Britons still are.

This is it in a nutshell. The right wing & ultra right wing racists & little Englanders, see Britain as some powerful nation, to be obeyed by the rest of the world, as it was 150 years ago.
If mad boris takes us over the cliff on Oct.31st, we will quickly become a vassal state of the USA, almost the 51st State, but without having a vote, as we do in the EU.
Apart from the chaos to begin with ( and there will be choas, food shortages etc), long term the country will move further and further to the right,( as if it isnt far enough to the right now).
Workers rights will be non existent, human rights too, everything working people have fought tooth & nail for over the last 150 yrs will just go.
Our beloved NHS will be no more, being a USA privately owned affair, split between a plethora of American owned corporations. A dystopian nightmare awaits us....but at least we'll keep brown skinned people out eh?

Sort of agree, UpminsterO. Although it's a lazy trope that MPs want to remain because they're lazy and/or greedy. Most of them have genuinely judged us to be better off in the EU (only time will tell if they're right).

It would seem our options are:

1. Remain as a key player in an imperfect EU, accepting all its flaws (there are plenty) and the risk of political instability in some eastern states and economic turmoil in the south.

2. Leave and sign up to be the well-used mistress of either the USA or China, with zero influence as we'll have to conform to whatever trading regulations and economic reforms they stipulate. There may be some benefit to hanging onto their coattails, but I fail to see how it's possible to calculate if any hypothetical benefit is greater to the ones we currently enjoy.

3. Leave, go lone-wolf, and try and feed off the scraps from the world table along with the other ex-commonwealth nations and various also-ran states. We could do well, but it's a high-risk strategy.

As I mentioned before, I voted remain (just) as I didn't judge the possible returns of leaving to be worth the risk. Nor do I have any confidence in our political class to navigate options 2 or 3 in such a way that would make my life better.

A three day ban is hardly justice. Have you any idea how offended I was by the racist content of that post? Are the mods tolerating racism on the Board now and every so often hand out a slap on the wrist. Well that is one great big Marvellous.
