The old spoof satirical shows were based on the real NHS roughly speaking. Doctor in the House opening credits filmed at the former Wanstead Hospital. There were not a hierarchy of Managers before they were introduced under Margaret Thatcher. The idea being that Doctors and Nurses should treat patients not get involved with admin.

I thought you may have been interested. The hospital was subsequently converted into numerous flats with whole wards in some cases being used . Rumoured to be haunted too. They still conduct blood tests there and physiotherapy treatment there. There is a great fish restaurant nearby ‘The Ark’.
