Bucket List
Adz on the Sven-Goran thread prompted me to ask this, has anyone got some real desires or wishes on a Bucket List they would like to achieve or experience , apart from the obvious like winning the Lotto ?

Re: Bucket List
Visit Oz. I won't because the flight time would kill me. Even if it didn't the jetlag would.

Re: Bucket List
Non-achievable: Australia, South America, Portugal. Achievable: Orkneys, Shetlands, Giant's Causeway. Achieved: New York, Mexico, Isle of Man, Scillies, Farne Islands, Arran Islands and driving to the VERY top of the highest Pass in Europe ( at the time la Bonette 2802 m - the 2 now listed as higher, I believe are somewhat contentious.
I would like to see a sun fish:- on my trip to the Scillies, the ship captain pointed one out, I had my dog & I am short, everyone stood up before me, saw no sun fish.

Re: Bucket List
Cycle around Europe, following the sun. Start in Portugal or Italy and head up to northern Europe before heading south again. Stop along the way to take in the sights and cultures.

Re: Bucket List
Quite modest and very achievable indeed. I like the sound of the sun, just imagining it. Portugal and Italy are fantastic places ,especially if you like your food!LittleMate wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 1:11 pm Cycle around Europe, following the sun. Re: Bucket List
The jetlag is alright. Spaces you out for a day or so and there was the time I confused a doorway with a mirror and wondered why I couldn't see my reflection but other than that it's generally not too bad.

Re: Bucket List
3 months inter railing around Europe in the Summer. But, not on a budget, which I had to do when I did it for a few weeks in 2000.
The Ride London 100 is also on there. Now it’s through Essex not Surrey, it might be possible (as I wouldn’t be able to have managed those hills).

Re: Bucket List
ComeOnYouOs :- The Isle of Wight is the place. You would be in with a good dog's chance of seeing a red squirrel. I always wanted to see a puffin, but after going to the Farne Islands, there are so many you get blasé. Mind you they look so weird, I reckon they could be a scam!

Re: Bucket List
That sounds great and doing the budget thing in the 00s is absolutely something I should have done when I had the chance. Only managed a week doing Budapest - Prague - Berlin on overnight trains with a couple of nights in each. Oh well.

Why’s Portugal not achievable? It’s about a 3 hour flightFriend or faux wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 12:01 pm Non-achievable: Australia, South America, Portugal.

Re: Bucket List
So many to list, so I won't as I'll bore you with all but a handful and I'm doing one this year - going to see the Bayeaux Tapestry.
See the;
Terracotta Army
Angkor Wat
Golden Gate Bridge (walk across it)
John O'Groats
Gracelands
Niagara Falls
Crown Jewels
Edinburgh Castle
Titanic Museum
That'll do for now.

Re: Bucket List
Yep. My main inhibitors are the fact that I'm still working and that my wife does not cycle. She will be my support team, possibly even in a camper van. Move on 50 miles and I meet her there. Every 3-4 days we stop and enjoy the surrounds for 48 hours.Daily Express bot wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2024 1:15 pmQuite modest and very achievable indeed. I like the sound of the sun, just imagining it. I've enjoyed rural Portugal and Italy before and would gladly do it again, but I'm keen to explore Croatia, Greec and south-west Europe. I've toyed with the idea of doing it two successive spring/summers.
