Re: El Miz news
How will we all feel, if next week, or the week after, El Miz has gone? I'll feel bloody terrible. Without him, we'll be such an average /poor team.
Allegedly, we paid £300,000 for Moncur, a player that struggles to last 30 mins on a football pitch. El Miz is young and fit, and in 2 years will be worth a million plus....makes good business sense
As for him allegedly refusing to wear a rainbow armband....as a Muslim , Homosexuality is a sin, and he would find it deeply offensive to wear it. We have to be tolerant of other faiths.
Im only interested in him as a footballer playing for us

Re: El Miz news
If he goes to a club like Bolton or Derby, I'd accept that he's moved onto bigger things, which is long term a positive thing for the club. You want to be seen as a good stepping stone for talented young players. It would be disappointing if ended up at Wycombe.
Need to remember that his return was a complete bonus for this season. Don't think anyone expected him to come back after last year.

Do you really think board members aren't aware of what is going on at the football club they run & it's players ?
As for opinions ,
I'll discuss good ones & I'll always pull up stupid ones.
It's called freedom of speech & the right to having an opinion sunshine.

Re: El Miz news
Keep your knickers on guys there’s alway a replacement, El Miz is a good player and would be missed however he’s been overplayed and has lost pace imo, this is his level. All the clubs that are supposedly after him are league one level. When one door shuts another opens and perhaps One of our plethora of midfield players could step up? Like I’ve already said if he were that good Ipswich wouldn’t consider letting him go.

There is, although it means the recruitment committee would have to find a good option quickly. The latter part isn't exactly their speciality...Monkey Boy wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 11:49 am Keep your knickers on guys there’s alway a replacement, El Miz is a good player and would be missed however he’s been overplayed and has lost pace imo, this is his level. As for the current options, none of them imo unless we can reverse Pratley's age by 10 years and he plays 90 mins every week until end of the season.

Re: El Miz news
People are down on Moncur but he was an investment to get us up and he did, he was never going to have any real resale value at that age, last season started 35 games, came on in 8
El Miz is different he is an investment in aiming for the playoffs maybe in a year or two, he could easily double/treble in value, the smart money is on signing him if he wants to,

Moncur did enough to justify bringing him in but his (lack of) fitness to contribute this season is shocking.essexfootball wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 4:09 pm People are down on Moncur but he was an investment to get us up and he did, he was never going to have any real resale value at that age, last season started 35 games, came on in 8

If we were struggling to find budget to bring in 2-3 players we needed at the start of this window can't see where 250k+ comes from to retain one who's already here.
Question for you all then, would you rather
a) spend whatever budget we do have to retain El Miz but no new signings this window as a result
b) accept El Miz moving on, bring in 3 players in the window one of which is a CDM of unknown quality

Re: El Miz news
Definitely option A . El- Miz is one of our most important players . There would be a big hole in our midfield if he left . . Midfielder you mentioned would probably be nowhere near as good as El- Miz

Smyth, El Miz, Vigaroux, Beckles and Prat’s were all far, far more important.

If you count those moments in terms of cost / contribution you could argue that for sure. Bit of an expensive delicacy compared to the constant output from the ones you mention.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 4:53 pm

However I'd say the ones he did make changed games and that Wimbledon goal in January was worth the fee alone. Remember thinking at the time how massive that game was and getting the win really got back on track for the run-in.

I suspect that option A is what the club are planning, and it might explain Wellen’s sudden disinterest in signing players in his last interview.gshaw wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 4:30 pmMoncur did enough to justify bringing him in but his (lack of) fitness to contribute this season is shocking.essexfootball wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 4:09 pm People are down on Moncur but he was an investment to get us up and he did, he was never going to have any real resale value at that age, last season started 35 games, came on in 8

It’s not beyond the realms of possibility that the club got wind of bids for El Miz coming in and understood that it would mean that we have to spend whatever Jan budget we did have (or possibly even more) on signing him ourselves. That would mean no other players coming in.
Makes sense when you think about it and why Wellens has suddenly gone from saying that we need to bring in a few players to a strange “I’m not bothered” message. He knows that we either keep El Miz and get noone else or lose El Miz to get new players in.
