RW knew the budget when he signed a new contract in the summer and was happy with it - there wont be any new money without moving people out
and he knew that two a couple of weeks ago when he spoke to Dulcet Dave. We need to move out two or three squad players and bring in a couple of loans until the end of the season. I imagine Cooper will go back to Swansea and they will have to try and move on a couple more. Not easy but if we haven't got the money not a lot we can do.

But the budget doesn't know what our injury list is going to look like. It has to be adjusted accordingly. We've had horrific problems so far, we've currently got 3 forward players out leaving us with just 4 players (plus Moncur) for the 4 forward positions.Top of the JES wrote: ↑Sat Dec 30, 2023 11:24 pmThe budget has been spent - They put their hands in their pockets every week to keep the club running. who do you think covers our weekly losses.BiggsyMalone wrote: ↑Sat Dec 30, 2023 11:19 pmMoney is there. Our multi millionaire investors are not putting their money in every week, by the way. Their investment was agreed up front. They now need to decide if they want to protect their investment or not.
As others have said, they know that we'll still be L1 next season however little or however much they put in, so they won't be digging that deep.

Richie said we haven't got much to spend in the transfer window but that means we do have a little left in the budget . If we can only afford one decent player I'd rather we brought in a winger . Put Agyei more central .

The budget has already been adjusted upwards once as confirmed by Travis. We need a couple of decent loans and we will be fine. Just out of interest who do you think is going to cover the likely £2 million loss this season the investors agreed to put in but at the end of the day Travis and Teague put in the Lions share.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Sun Dec 31, 2023 11:20 amBut the budget doesn't know what our injury list is going to look like. Why do you constantly refer to to our investors like it’s loose change to them - it’s not they already put millions in they are not obliged to keep doing so. A few tweaks to the squad at this time of year makes sense we will be lucky to get players we want because this window is the most difficult to work in.
Hopefully a couple of decent loans and a more substantial rebuild in summer.

Re: Who will join in January?
I love the concept that a transfer window opens, players reshuffle and everybody gets better. Doesn't work like that, some teams lose assets and gets worse. Not sure why our current squad that has got us half way up League 1 won't be capable of avoiding the bottom 4, but then again we could just spend spend spend like some suggest just to make sure.RedDwarf 1881 wrote: ↑Sun Dec 31, 2023 11:45 amIt would be a big mistake because you can bet all our rivals will be strengthening during the transfer window .Story of O wrote: ↑Sun Dec 31, 2023 11:36 am Are we really so certain we are safe from relegation? The short and long term risk of relegation and all that entails means that enough funds must be forthcoming for players that RW wants and not for who ML and the so so called transfer committee foists upon RW.Top of the JES wrote: ↑Sun Dec 31, 2023 12:21 pmThe budget has already been adjusted upwards once as confirmed by Travis. If the club are serious about keeping RW need to bring in only the players that RW wants and not players that are foisted upon him by ML and the so called transfer committee.

Re: Who will join in January?
Oh but I did and I was - After winning the Conference we stabilised in league Two and then became champions - all on more signings that were failures than were a success according to you.So I give you. Vigs, James, Beckles, El Miz, Theo, Smyth, Pratley, Graham and others all signed after promotion from NL all good successful signings with a handful of players who haven’t made an impact. No club ever gets it 100% right even those with lots of money to spend but we have done well considering not a. bean on transfer fees for those, even Moncur was good for most of last season.PoundhillO wrote: ↑Sun Dec 31, 2023 5:20 pmYou clearly didn’t fully read what I said .I said more failures than successes since our NL days.Top of the JES wrote: ↑Sun Dec 31, 2023 5:15 pmReally? Re: Who will join in January?
So just to clarify with all our transfer failures and a couple of successes, over six seasons we have managed two promotions and have improved our league position every season bar the one where we dropped a whole two places. The transfers have been truly disastrous !PoundhillO wrote: ↑Sun Dec 31, 2023 5:20 pmYou clearly didn’t fully read what I said .I said more failures than successes since our NL days.Top of the JES wrote: ↑Sun Dec 31, 2023 5:15 pmReally? Once again you are being selective, since our non league days ,Non league days started from our very first day in NL not from when we were promoted.Chelmsford Swimmer wrote: ↑Sun Dec 31, 2023 5:39 pmSo just to clarify with all our transfer failures and a couple of successes, over six seasons we have managed two promotions and have improved our league position every season bar the one where we dropped a whole two places. Re: Who will join in January?
Still applies we signed a squad that won the Conference didn’t we (from scratch) you don’t win that with a team of failures either. Seems to me you expect every player we sign to be a world beater we do very well all things considered. It’s just never enough for some though is it.
Look at most clubs at our level we all want a 20 goal striker but it’s difficult to get them on our budget.Paul Mullin could have gone from League one Cambridge to 4 or 5 clubs in the championship, he went to Wrexham in the conference who offered him a long deal on a fantastic wage, that is what we and other clubs at our level are up against.

Re: Who will join in January?
Martin Ling joined when were non league. Seems a bit harsh to blame him and his transfer committee for the first season finishing below our previous league place, but on that basis I'm happy to include this season instead where we will again finish higher than the season before.PoundhillO wrote: ↑Sun Dec 31, 2023 5:42 pmOnce again you are being selective, since our non league days ,Non league days started from our very first day in NL not from when we were promoted.Chelmsford Swimmer wrote: ↑Sun Dec 31, 2023 5:39 pmSo just to clarify with all our transfer failures and a couple of successes, over six seasons we have managed two promotions and have improved our league position every season bar the one where we dropped a whole two places. Re: Who will join in January?
In our 2 years in non league, I would say 75% of the players were a success. I would suggest a slightly higher percentage since being back in the league.PoundhillO wrote: ↑Sun Dec 31, 2023 5:42 pmOnce again you are being selective, since our non league days ,Non league days started from our very first day in NL not from when we were promoted.Chelmsford Swimmer wrote: ↑Sun Dec 31, 2023 5:39 pmSo just to clarify with all our transfer failures and a couple of successes, over six seasons we have managed two promotions and have improved our league position every season bar the one where we dropped a whole two places. Ling brings in players recommended to him by the scouts, particularly Steve Foster.
I would doubt if Ling goes around the country watching players in games

Richie said in his post Wycombe interview that he wasn't bothered about the transfer window and he'll leave it to Lingy . Fair enough but I hope it's Richie's decision who we go for .
