Mental Health Crisis

Post by spen666 »

It may be seen by some on social media as funny when one witnesses someone having a mental health Crisis.

In reality it is anything but. It is also more worrying as there is little you can do to help unlike if it was someone having same crisi in person.

In addition as most people do not know the party in crisis, it's difficult to get help for them.

Be nice everyone

We've seen a few on here over the years, it's like watching a car crash happen in slow motion that you can't do anything about.

Provide some clarity spen? Because you’re hinting at assuming someone on here has mental health problems which is a dangerous path to go down

Many, many, people at the moment under pressure around finance, housing, feeding children etc etc.
There 'may' be some on this board- that sort of thing rarely gets talked about on a personal level on here- probably due to the proliferation of male boarders.

Struggling people may come on here under the pretext of finding enjoyment, and find none. Not the board's fault of course but would just make the situation worse.

Is also a difficult time of year, with extra pressure on parents particularly to "deliver" the presents etc their little one's friends are perceived to be getting.
Safe to assume that most adults have problems of one sort or another, and I certainly take that empathy out onto the streets as a little respect and understanding goes a long way.

Words can be very spiteful indeed.

I agree with all you say.

Problems rarelty get talked about on this board as there is such a toxic nasty atmosphere when anyone displays a "weakness". Its like the school playground was many years ago (and may well still be like it)

I seriously wonder if worry & stress caused by the hype, mass consumerism etc at the Festive Period contributes to the behaviour issues of some on here.

Remember, you are not alone in feeling stressed, lonely, etc at this time of year.

Speak up, don't struggle on pretending everything is ok

"Pretending everything is okay" is not exactly a trait you see much of on here.

Whilst I appreciate your concern for CEBs wellbeing, is this the first time you've noticed his less than diplomatic debating technique?

I have not said anything about CEB.

I have not mentioned any single person and for good reason

Cheers for the concern Spen.
Unlikely as it may sound, I was in fact of sound mind and was just making a point, in a way designed to make the point unavoidable.
Needless to say, it hasn’t meant that everyone on the boards got it.
Time will tell what FTC/Admin has to say about it.
Suffice to say, the point was to visibly, pointedly use strong language to illustrate the disparity between how swearing is treated, and how truly objectionable posts are treated.

Christmas is a time of forgiveness, so I won’t necessarily call the guy who doesn’t feel any sympathy for dead civilians an unkind name again.
After all, I’m not a monster.
Chances are we will all move on.
At least, once admin clears it up.

Regardless, I hope we can now all move past this.
Even toxic boarders deserve a break once in a while.
Verily, I do think, perhaps everyone needs to have a think about whether they’re more upset by swearing or callous disregard for human life

It is not a laughing matter for sure. I have seen situations develop into a sectioning under the Mental Health Act before my eyes and escorted to Goodmayes Hospital and shock to see other patients there as inmates having to explain I was with my friend genuinely and that I was not the subject of the sectioning. Cab happen to anyone especially those of fragile personality.

On a serious note - it strikes me as strange that mods will leave open a thread speculating about the mental health of a member here, which was started while he was subject of a ban and so unable to either clarify, protest or report.

Considering that in an earlier iteration of this board, a member about whom nobody suspected any mental health issues (Comfort Break) took his own life, I’d have thought it a good idea to have zero tolerance to mental health speculation on here.

Not complaining about it personally - as Trump plumbing observed, my arguing style is always like this, do people even know my boarding style? But it is an example of the weird “anything goes except being mean to Caca” approach to modding that now seems to have evolved, entirely coincidentally, under Caca’s stewardship

Yep.
I wonder if leaving threads open in which people are invited to speculate about the mental health of people who post here helps to destigmatise mental health issues for those who are actually experiencing them?

That’s my point. I don’t mind people thinking what they like about me, I don’t exactly post as if it’s important for me to be universally liked. I don’t think “lol mental health crises are bad and one is happening I’m concerned, no really 😂 “ type posts do a great deal to make it OK for people to openly discuss when they are having one, though.
