Why does boxing allow boxers to dictate if they fight or not

I have always thought boxers should be told who and when to fight and not pick who they want and where. Now this bloke threatens to pull out over basketball tickets. Don’t want to fight, take title away

No one can be forced to put their life on line in ring.
Slavery is abolished.
If ge does not fight, he will lose money & his ranking etc

Have you never had an off day or period in your life where other matters dictate and take priority?Story of O wrote: ↑Fri Dec 15, 2023 5:04 pm https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/boxing/67728578

How did demanding to sit courtside at an NBA game affect his health?

Having to spend more than a few minutes within earshot of Eddie Hearn would affect anyone’s health.Proposition Joe wrote: ↑Fri Dec 15, 2023 8:06 pm How did demanding to sit courtside at an NBA game affect his health?

Really? You compare slavery to boxing?

Erm No - I'm saying precisely the opposite, but don't let that stop you
Re: Why does boxing allow boxers to dictate if they fight or not
Feels like a lot of people are missing the point of this thread.
I took it to mean that the way boxing is set up is pretty much unique in sporting terms, in that current title holders get to pick and choose who they fight and when, leading to limited opportunities to challenge for a title. It’s equivalent to Man City being league champions until deciding that yep, they’ll play against Liverpool next March.
The reason it has to be different is because it’s probably not a great idea to get repeatedly punched in the head every Saturday afternoon 38 times a year. But it’s still a bit weird when you stop to think about it

Maybe draws in boxing should be decided by penalties, where each boxer takes it in turns to have a free punch at the opponents head, with no defence allowed, and the last one standing wins?

Don't think you should be able to win on points, either. If the other person's still standing, you haven't won. It's like having a 0-0 draw but giving the 3 points to whoever had most shots.

They should also take a leaf out of football’s book, and immediately substitute any player who takes a knock to the head

I made my mind up before my first post on this question. My position has not changed

Please re-read my last sentence.
Clarity is not your strongest point.

My position is perfectly clear.
If you are unable to comprehend part of it, then perhaps you could clarify what part of my position you want clarifying

Big card tonight but the glaring omission is Joshua/Wilder aren’t against each other
Another let down is Eddie Hearn has just announced Connor Benn is fighting somebody who isn’t Eubank Jnr after months of teasing that fight
