The 3 at the back doesn't seem to be helping us, very poor goals to concede and our defence looks slow. Increase in pace and quality of League 2 seems to be biting.

Our lone highlight comes from a long ball and headed knockdown, exactly the way we scored our only goal this season thus far. Doesn't say much for our attacking threat with the current tactics and formation.
Shock horror, fat non league goalie who’s getting on a bit and has barely played in pre-season struggles to get down quickly.

Ridiculous he’s first choice atm.

What ?

If juddy isnt standing 5 yards off the ball allowing the guy who scored.to play the ball in
Or if he followed the runner instead of the line of the ball
The goal wouldnt have come.

Nothing to do with centre midfielders at all.
Sorry mate, you’re wrong.

Judd hasn’t covered himself in glory but he’s tracked back and been done by the bloke dropping his shoulder as if to go on the outside. Judd isn’t following the ball, he looks around for his man a couple of times. It happens.

What you need to do is ensure there’s adequate cover inside of him but there isn’t. No way should their centre forward have that much time on the ball unchallenged and the scorer have that much space to run into.

It was the same on Saturday for the first goal. Bloke cut inside Brophy and had acres of space, there’s no cover or support from Cm at all.
He doesn’t cut inside of Brophy at all
Ball comes off Brophys body guy takes one touch bang it’s a goal Brophy didn’t have time to close him down
Take a look at the highlights
They wont do that.
It might explain stuff

He did. And he’s not saying Brophy should close him down. Watch the goal, Clay gets pulled out of position when their midfielder makes a clever run. His hearts in the right place tracking back but he has to go to the ball and scream at Brophy to track the run. Clay could and should have got a tackle in there.

It’s easy to say after the game, watching it back and I can’t really blame Clay, he isn’t that player but a ball winning defensive midfielder instinctive goes in to the man with the ball to at least put him off or make the tackle (or even a foul)

Somewhat harsh but I agree with your underlying point. Deano should have been retained as cover, Sarge let go and a decent L2 standard keeper brought in.

I’m not digging Clay out either, he is at least back in shot. The ball is initially in Lings channel and he doesn’t make an appearance until really late, no idea where Wright is either. We need to get players back in quicker. That’s either an issue with formation and how we’re set up or playersnot trying hard enough.

My thread about analysing the goals and the extended highlights sunk like a rock (I’ll take the hint) but if you look at the first two goals, and a few of the other chances, we commit a ridiculous amount of players forward. For that first goal, Brophy is by the 6 yard box of their goal. He obviously does well to get back but his body shape is well off making the clearance and you can’t expect a player to defend well if they’ve just run full pace the whole length of the pitch.

Indeed overly harsh on Brill but our backup option isn't up to scratch and to me it seems he's not trusted to be anything more than emergency last resort. Seems like Brill has been rushed back and isn't fit, a common theme where so many of last season's players have broken down physically after putting so much into the title challenge.

Should have a pro keeper challenging / being prepared to take over. Sargeant needs a season as first choice at NL level to see if he makes the grade as a senior pro. Thought it seemed a bit sentimental keeping him but I guess it's the cheapest possible cover with potential he comes good.

Always liked Brill, mainly because of the difference he made for JE. Massive.

But have to say Im having my doubts of late. I wonder if his lack of preseason and injury is affecting his performance. Not as mobile as I would like and a bit slow. His distribution has always been weak. Cannot be too much confidence in Sarge.

My 2c from the highlights of the first 3 games.

1. The 3 centre halves are very poorly organised, often one too deep or out of position.
2. We're devoid of creativity.
3. Our final ball is terrible, barely a credible chance being created for the forwards.

RE has got his work cut out for him, needs to address this in training quickly.

Yeah ok, midfielders shouldn’t try to stop someone shooting from 25 yards. Close the thread.
