You can't blame Hamas for carrying children and using them as human shields during gun battles. They just don't have any alternative, you see?Long slender neck wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2023 4:01 pm https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... g-aid.html
Plus, what about all the bad stuff Israel has done? Eh?

Re: Israel
How strange that the IDF drone operators would claim kids are being used as human shields while the article itself reproduces several stills released by the IDF, none of which even claim to show kids being used as human shields.

Is there where someone posts a two month old link and say “well they did it then so I’d bet my mortgage they’re doing it here”.

Re: Israel
Not quite, Hamas came to exist because the P.L.O kept getting taken for a ride after years of talks. Hamas identified extreme violence to create a free palestinian state.Long slender neck wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2023 11:35 am Probably, as that is what has led to Hamas forming in the first place. But what alternative did Israel have after Oct 7?

Imagine using Hamas (designated a terrorist organisation by the us and uk governments) as the yardstick by which to measure yourselves.Dunners wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2023 4:50 pmYou can't blame Hamas for carrying children and using them as human shields during gun battles. I’m sure dunnem will put up a multi paragraph post shortly dissecting the information released and discrediting the publisher.Proposition Joe wrote: ↑Wed Dec 13, 2023 5:06 pm How strange that the IDF drone operators would claim kids are being used as human shields while the article itself reproduces several stills released by the IDF, none of which even claim to show kids being used as human shields.

This is hardly surprising news, but the Israeli ambassador confirms the idea of a 2 state solution is dead.

Re: Israel
She'd held that opinion well before October 7th, just couldn't come out and say it *quite* so freely.

Nah, the choice must surely be between the British Mandate or the Ottomans? Let's have it out with the Turks and sort this out once and for all.

I'm not sure why you're referencing all this historical stuff. The conflict only started on October 7th.

Re: Israel
More liberal, left of centre Israelis are hoping that October 7th will wake people up to just how incompetent and deceitful the ultra nationalists in charge are, and how counter productive their pro settler, anti two state solution stance is. They have only made the country less safe and secure.
It's an optimistic reading and obviously there's going to be a massive appetite for revenge that's hard to see go away, but have to hang onto the hope that October 7th was a reset moment where the Israeli people realise something radical needs to change and that an approach of more of the same, only more so, isn't going to make them safer.

Re: Israel
I've tried reading up on domestic Israeli politics. I'm barely scratching the surface, but my takeaways are that (a) there's no chance of anything constructive happening with the Netanyahu government in place, and (b) the ultra-nationalist parties are not going to go quietly and do have a relatively large constituency within Israeli society. I hope you're right, but I just don't see the same optimistic reading right now.Mistadobalina wrote: ↑Thu Dec 14, 2023 10:41 amMore liberal, left of centre Israelis are hoping that October 7th will wake people up to just how incompetent and deceitful the ultra nationalists in charge are, and how counter productive their pro settler, anti two state solution stance is.
