Re: Woke watch.
Similar thing happened in the US recently. Both instances are presumably socially conservative and/or religious kids getting upset, which I don’t think qualifies as a ‘woke’ issue, almost by definition

Re: Woke watch.
Only if we introduce a new rating of 30 given the infantile way young people have decided to not grow up.
Like 12a I'd allow them when an actual grown up has checked they don't have a tik tok account, or have been to Legoland without their own children, and as such might be able to hack a movie with adult themes.

Re: Woke watch.
James Bond films to get trigger warning.
“Contain language, images or other content that reflect views prevalent in its time, but will cause offence today (as they did then)."
Phew. Audiences at the BFI could have suffered unexpected trauma.

I like the covering of all bases to avoid potential ageism of saying that everyone in the sixties loved it

This article is, IMO, a good example of the circumstances where the idea of “woke” has a tangible, valid meaning; there seems to be no doubt or even no disputing that Claudine Gay has actually done the things she is accused of, but throughout, the article treats the plagiarism and the iffy comments as completely irrelevant.
In the absence of any intention of her usual political allies/natural political tribe/wider group of those likely to generally support her having any desire to hold her accountable, it then leaves room for the opportunistic right (whether in good or bad faith) to take advantage, and make a show of taking the moral high ground.
In treating the issue as if the perceived bad faith of her accusers/critics is important, while the substance of the accusations is barely relevant, it allows the right a further opportunity to take the moral high ground - the guardian here pretty much rolls its eyes at the idea that plagiarism is probably not a great look for Gay.
And yes, of course the right will opportunistically look for this sort of thing; but ignoring that the opportunity is there because of a wider lack of due diligence in (in this case) making appointments, or making sure our actions are beyond reproach is a really weird (though predictable) position for the guardian to take

Re: Woke watch.
Joey Barton wading into the trans debate without the first clue of what he’s talking about. He’s a proper div

Was looking for some entertainment tonight. Undecided whether to browse Netflix or just read Joey Barton's timeline.

Re: Woke watch.
Barton isn’t normally this ‘outspoken’ is he?
I’ve always had him down as bit of a **** (fool), but not a full on Katie Hopkins wannabee.

Re: Woke watch.
Didn’t he lose a couple of management jobs recently? Seems to me that he’s auditioning for a shock jock or GB news type gig. He’s probably not wrong that if he thinks he can grift a few quid with this s***

Re: Woke watch.
I find his recent and extremely rapid transition into full time provocateur slightly odd. He’s almost certainly prevented himself from getting another managerial job and whilst he was sacked by Bristol Rovers his record in management isn’t appalling. There are managers out there with a far worse CV who still get gigs.Hoover Attack wrote: ↑Sat Jan 06, 2024 8:47 pm Barton isn’t normally this ‘outspoken’ is he?

Maybe he was just fed up with the job and decided to cash in on the professional bell end circuit. With a general election coming up there will probably be quite a bit of demand for it in the next twelve months.

I’m very pleased that I recognised this as the regressive, incoherent nonsense it is years ago.
Imagine actually having to articulate this sort of thing, and trying to make it convincing

What's this? Is the Queen of the Cranks realising that the identity politics game is up?
